What To Expect

Our fun, creative and interesting classes show you how to make one of the incredible designs of the Alhambra. No experience is necessary. We will show you how the mosaics, patterns and art of the Alhambra were created and show you how to make one of your very own to take home. These classes are a fantastic opportunity to learn about and appreciate the unique cultural heritage of Granada. They are designed for anyone to participate and are fun and relaxing. All levels of artistic ability and experience are welcome in our classes. We help every student each step of the way and if you know what you’re doing and want to pick up some new skills there is plenty we can show you. Classes are 3 hours of fun with lots of refreshment breaks. We focus on enjoyment and students work at their own pace while painting. Our workshop is air conditioned for summer and heated for winter, so you will feel perfectly comfortable! The class gives you a deeper understanding of the art and artisans of the Alhambra and are a wonderful way to enjoy your holiday. Create your own design using pencil and compass, add colour with either water colour or gouache painting techniques and bring it alive.

All materials for the class are supplied. We use beautiful Japanese paints and Indian Khadi paper.

took an Islamic art class with Mark, and it was one of the best things I did in Andalusia. Mark was incredibly patient and generous. I now have my first Islamic drawing, and I am so happy about it. I can’t recommend it enough!

A fantastic workshop. They take you through the process step by step and we (3 sisters) were amazed at our own results. Kate and Mark are kind, patient and helpfull. The next day we went to the Alhambra and there we saw the work that went into creating the beautiful Nasrid Palaces.

This was incredible! Kate and Mark are awesome and have so many interesting stories about their travels. They’re so helpful at explaining the process. I wasn’t sure what my piece would end up looking like because I haven’t painted since elementary school and I don’t have the steadiest hand, but it turned out really well thanks to their help. It was a blast to get to learn more about the designs I’d been seeing around the city and to bring a souvenir home that I made. I definitely recommend taking a few hours out of your day in Granada for this experience!

I took a workshop with the Geometric Art Studio in Granada the day after a visit to the Alhambra and it was fabulous. The teaching was clear and delightful, the materials sumptuous, the studio warm and inviting, and the atmosphere relaxed and refreshing. The chance to practice the geometry of Islamic art and end up with a beautiful finished piece worthy of framing, was a great way to gain an understanding of the complexity and grandeur of this rich artistic tradition. For anyone with a few hours to spare in Granada, I can't recommend this studio highly enough.

Such a wonderful family experience! I took my daughter, 13 and my son, six to an art class with Mark and Kate. We had such a great time, both kids asked to return. Mark was a fantastic teacher for my six year old. My son was completely engrossed for the whole three hours. Mark created a entirely different lesson for him and even had my son do an extra project so my teenaged daughter and I could finish our projects. Besides having a great time chatting with Mark and Kate, and learning a bit more about the Alhambra, the studio is also a lovely escape from the heat. Can’t recommend enough.

Highly recommend this magical experience with teachers Kati and Mark. The workshop highlights your time in Granada and especially your Alhambra visit. Your awareness and appreciation of the intricacies to create the designs by the Alhambra artisans are carefully explained by the teachers in a comfortable, precise, step by step method and in a fun way. My adult daughter Megan and I had the most wonderful afternoon at the art class in Grenada with Kate and Mark. We learned how artisans made the fascinating tiles seen @ the Alhambra and elsewhere and took home hand-made painted renderings as souvenirs. Could not recommend more. It was a relaxing afternoon and one of our favorite experiences on a three-week trip to Spain.

A very enjoyable experience. Kate & Mark made us feel very welcome and relaxed. They both explained everything very clearly and made an extra effort with our little girl. Lots of fun, relaxing music and learned a few watercoloring tips too. Highly recommend

Spending time steps from the Alhambra with artists in their fascinating studio was a special experience. I learned so much from Mark in just a few hours and I'm grateful for his attention and skill. This art experience is a must after a visit to the Alhambra. It allows you to understand the massive monument and its tilework more fully. Mark explains how the tile patterns were created, and then you use those same techniques to create your work of art. I was led, step-by-step through the process and returned home with a special, frameable piece of art, commemorating my happy time in Granada. I completely recommend this fun experience.
