The tour starts with a fun & interesting bus journey to the summit. Our experienced local guides will lead you all the way, providing commentary on the history, and nature of the area.
Your first bike ride is an exhilarating 6 km road descent from the summit of Mt Wellington. Starting 1270 metres above sea level, the summit experience & road descent have breathtaking views.
The second ride is an 11km off-road guided ride, gently rolling down an enchanting track through stunning temperate rainforest.
You'll experience breathtaking vistas, towering eucalyptus forests, gigantic ferns, a waterfall, walk under historic aqueducts, gaze into crystal clear babbling streams, and catch glimpses of curious local wildlife.
In between rides, we stop off at the Lost Freight Cafe, where you'll have time to grab some refreshments. The ride finishes back at our Hobart office.

Your tour starts at our South Hobart office. You'll receive a tour briefing, helmet & gloves. You'll also be introduced to your bike... brakes, gears, etc. Next, board our minibus for a 30-minute drive to the summit of Mt Wellington, 1270m above sea level. At the summit, take 15-minutes to explore & snap a few photos of the amazing views. Then, hop on your bike and ride the exhilarating 6 km summit road descent. For anyone preferring not to do this road ride, there is the option to come down in our support vehicle. We then have a quick stop-off at the Lost Freight Cafe; enough time for a drink, a snack, & toilet break. Next, it's a 15-minute bus journey to the start of the rainforest ride. This 11 km guided ride gently descends through temperate rainforest. The track is level, wide, with gentle gradients, & is easy to ride. The surface is compact dirt. Your guide will provide commentary on local history & wildlife. Riders should be comfortable on a bike with good basic bike handling skills. It's downhill all the way, so only a basic fitness level is required. If the summit is closed due to road works or bad weather, instead, we do a longer ride on the rainforest trail.

We had a legendary ride with this outfit — the kind of ride bards will sing about centuries from now. I am, shall we say, chronologically gifted, and I hadn’t ridden a bike in so long that archaeologists might consider my last attempt “prehistoric.” Naturally, I was terrified. But fear not: this ride was so easy even my dusty, squeaky joints said, “Yeah, okay, we got this.” First tip: dress warm for the initial descent. At the top of Mt Wellington, the temperature drops so fast I’m pretty sure I time-traveled briefly. I lost feeling in my face, my soul shivered, and for a moment I questioned every life choice that led me to that mountaintop — but only for a moment, because then the fun kicked in. Then you enter the rain forest, which is basically Mother Nature saying, “Sorry about the frostbite scare — here, have some lush beauty and oxygen.” The ride through there? Magical. Mystical. I half-expected a Disney animal to join us and offer unsolicited advice about believing in myself. Our group leader was a hero among humans — a guardian angel on wheels — making sure no one was left behind, not even those of us who ride at a pace best described as “determined turtle.” In summary: 10/10, would defy gravity, aging, and mild hypothermia again. HIGHLY recommended!

My friend and I are 60+year olds. We loved this mountain bike adventure. The activity was well planned and Phil made regular stops to regroup us, check on our progress, let us know what was coming up in the next segment, and to offer advice and support. Before the tour the features of the bike were explained. I’ve done mountain bike tours before and they were never this thorough or enjoyable. We gained so much local knowledge during Phil’s regular stops. Although it was foggy and rainy at times during the ride the whole group came away happy and content with the whole tour package. Our safety was considered during every aspect of the tour. It’s obvious Phil and Zoe take pride in their business and deserve every tourism award they’ve won. Thanks for the great Mt Wellington adventure.

We had a fabulous time- everything was managed with great efficiency, and safety was a priority. The ride was stunning -great views and lots of changes of scenery. Richard was made for guiding - friendly, funny, with lots of interesting facts about Tassie. We loved it and would highly recommend. And thank you Richard for the suggested walk along the nearby rivulet - we saw a platypus! Made our day 😊

Phil and Zoe were awesome. They should have cancelled the day when they discovered I was the only biker after some cancellations, but instead they gave me a personalized experience on Mt. Wellington. The ride down the mountain was excellent wherein we reviewed Tasmanian water management practices, and stopped to visit with the wallabies. Next time through I will book one of their longer tours.
