The tour starts with a fun & interesting bus journey to the summit. Our experienced local guides will lead you all the way, providing commentary on the history, and nature of the area.
Your first bike ride is an exhilarating 6 km road descent from the summit of Mt Wellington. Starting 1270 metres above sea level, the summit experience & road descent have breathtaking views.
The second ride is an 11km off-road guided ride, gently rolling down an enchanting track through stunning temperate rainforest.
You'll experience breathtaking vistas, towering eucalyptus forests, gigantic ferns, a waterfall, walk under historic aqueducts, gaze into crystal clear babbling streams, and catch glimpses of curious local wildlife.
In between rides, we stop off at the Lost Freight Cafe, where you'll have time to grab some refreshments. The ride finishes back at our Hobart office.

Your tour starts at our South Hobart office. You'll receive a tour briefing, helmet & gloves. You'll also be introduced to your bike... brakes, gears, etc. Next, board our minibus for a 30-minute drive to the summit of Mt Wellington, 1270m above sea level. At the summit, take 15-minutes to explore & snap a few photos of the amazing views. Then, hop on your bike and ride the exhilarating 6 km summit road descent. For anyone preferring not to do this road ride, there is the option to come down in our support vehicle. We then have a quick stop-off at the Lost Freight Cafe; enough time for a drink, a snack, & toilet break. Next, it's a 15-minute bus journey to the start of the rainforest ride. This 11 km guided ride gently descends through temperate rainforest. The track is level, wide, with gentle gradients, & is easy to ride. The surface is compact dirt. Your guide will provide commentary on local history & wildlife. Riders should be comfortable on a bike with good basic bike handling skills. It's downhill all the way, so only a basic fitness level is required. If the summit is closed due to road works or bad weather, instead, we do a longer ride on the rainforest trail.

We had a great experience and Zoe was very knowledgeable and friendly. Would recommend, the views from Mount Wellington from a mountain bike were so special.

Very well organised with fantastic hosts/guides. If you can ride a bike, you can and should do this tour. What a great day out!

I couldn’t recommend this highly enough! Everything is thought of and Phil and the team take care of you every step of the way. It was an incredible experience, and they are so knowledgeable that we leant a lot about Hobart history at the same time.

After reading the reviews we had no choice but to go on the ride and so glad we did. Rich was a fantastic guide and explained everything, what, where, how and when. We rode through a beautiful rain forest area and were not disappointed. Will be telling all our friends who are planning a trip to Hobart to jump on this ride. Thanks Rich 🙂

Well organised and informative . Leaders were very responsive to the different fitness and experience levels . That said, the whole tour can be done with very little peddling if desired.

The trip was incredible! I booked for myself, my dad & my uncle while on a family trip to Tasmania and by sheer luck we were the only 3 who had reserved the tour today! It made for an incredibly personal experience and we got to travel at our own speed with our host catering entirely to us. (Don't count on this though as it is an incredibly popular tour and for good reason!) I would definitely class the experience as 'easy' as long as you are confident on a bike. Both my dad and uncle are around 80yrs old and due to the gradual decline from the top of the mountain to the base, there is very little effort required except for some mindfulness cycling on a couple of forest/rocky tracks & fun technical turns - but these are all taken at a cruisy pace and advice is given on how to navigate them best which was very useful! You don't need to be an expert BMX rider, as long as you are confident on a bike the rest is just all about enjoying the gorgeous sights & history that Mt Wellington has to offer. Truly beautiful ride with so many different types of forest - so thankful we booked it, none of the photos do the real experience any justice!

It was amazing! A bit scary in the beginning but soon it was fun and invigorating. It was an adventure for us as we had not ridden mountain bikes on a mountain trail. We’re 68 and 71. Our guide, Shayna, was fabulous and made sure we were safe and she was very knowledgeable about the area and the animals. Do this tour if you can!!!!!
