Our mangrove experience operates in shallow waters, relying on tide levels to access the channels. During Super High Tide or High Tide , you can fully explore the mangrove forests , offering an immersive kayaking adventure . However, during Medium or Low Tide , access to the channels may not be possible, and the tour will take place in shallower waters near Purple Island ️, with a possible short walk ‍♂️ to the kayaks. High Tide : Ideal for kayaking ‍♂️, allowing access to hidden waterways within the mangroves for a unique and scenic experience . Medium/Low Tide : Limited channel access —tours take place in shallow waters, with potential walking required to reach the kayaks ‍.

We operate from a single base, located on Purple Island in Al Khor️This site is nestled within the mangrove forest and serves as part of the natural reserve of Al Thakhira, situated approximately 50 minutes away from Doha . You will need to reach our camp on your own: "AquaSports Qatar Eco Camp - Mangrove Kayaking Center

Transportation services are not included in our package offerings. To reach the "Aquasports Kayak Camp," you can use Uber or Karwa Taxi . Please note there may be delays returning to Doha, and Uber services might not be available. We recommend booking your return trip in advance upon arrival to ensure a smooth journey back. (One-way fare from Doha to the camp is estimated at 70-90 QR)

We offer BBQ meals as an optional choice, sourced from third-party catering. They deliver the meals to our campsite in ready-to-eat boxes for your convenience.

What To Expect

Embark on an unforgettable journey through the Al Thakira mangroves, one of Qatar’s hidden natural gems. As you paddle through serene channels, you’ll encounter a rich array of wildlife, including the graceful flamingos that arrive during their annual migration. Our expert guide will introduce you to the unique ecosystem of the mangroves, explaining their essential role in supporting Qatar’s biodiversity. The tour also includes a cultural highlight: the story of Bin Ghanim Island, or "Purple Island," and its influence on the design of Qatar’s national flag. After an adventurous day on the water, you can relax at our eco-camp on the shores of Purple Island. Our traditional Arabic camp combines authenticity with modern comforts, offering amenities like running water, showers, and separate restrooms for men and women. Here, you can unwind on our scenic viewing deck with a warm cup of karak tea. End your day with a delicious beachside barbecue dinner, surrounded by Qatar's natural beauty.

I enjoyed the experience. Never imagined that Qatar could be so green. The guide was knowledgeable. I had some experience with canoeing. I do not know how it is for novices.

Requirements and dress code should be more specific for visitors to know what to wear & take with them. Like visitors should know where they are going. But overall it is a great unforgettable experience.

Brilliant experience! We booked a private tour with food post-kayak. We had a wonderful day paddling through the serene mangroves, surrounded by lush greenery and gentle breezes, was a delightful contrast to the desert landscape, making the kayaking experience truly enjoyable. Our tour guide Prince was extremely knowledgeable and provided us with fascinating information about Purple island and an overview of the mangroves, highlighting their unique adaptations and ecological importance. After the kayaking we relaxed, ate and enjoyed the gentle winds. The food was delicious and all the guests enjoyed it. Fab day all round 🛶 🏝️ 4 adults and a teenager Top Tip- Check tide times.

I had an amazing experience with AquaSports Qatar during the kayaking eco-adventure! 🌅🚣‍♀️ Everything was very well organized, and the whole activity felt both fun and relaxing. A very special thank you to Gudetta, our guide. His sense of humor was incredible and truly made the experience unforgettable. He created a fun atmosphere, and made sure everyone felt comfortable and safe. It really made the whole adventure stand out. The guide was every helpful and nice. When my wife and son got stuck in the mangroves . He help pull them back on track. The trip was tiring due to incoming tide. But we loved the trip and would do it again.
