Edfu
Driving from Luxor to Edfu is a journey through the quiet rhythms of Upper Egypt, where the modern road runs alongside landscapes that feel timeless. Leaving Luxor, the bustle of temples and traffic gradually gives way to open stretches of desert, broken by ribbons of green farmland fed by the Nile. Date palms sway over small villages, and you’ll often see farmers tending fields much as their ancestors did thousands of years ago. As you approach Edfu, the scenery subtly shifts again. Sugarcane fields become more frequent, and the presence of the great Temple of Horus seems to announce itself before it comes into view, rising unexpectedly from the town like a stone mirage.
