• Empty Quarter or “Rub Al Khali Desert ” as it's pronounced in Arabic is the world second largest desert in the world, it occupies a Southern third of the Arabian peninsula the desert itself about 65,000 Square km, stretching to the north from Oman into Saudi Arabia, Yemen and up into the western UAE. The Huge Sand Dunes Reaches up to 300m • Drive towards the desert and settlement of Ubar the well known lost city which is believed to be swelled by the desert without leaving any traces .this Place was visited by many explorers like Wilfred Thesiger and Ranulph Fiennes. It is also associated with texts in the Quran. • Beyond Ubar are the Mega Dunes of the Empty Quarter that rise to a height of 250 meters and above. • Search in the sand for the small Geodes which are scattered around (Rare in this tour) • Have lunch at Thumrait (Optional). • On your way back to Salalah you may see a UNESCO site with Frankincense Trees (Availability not guaranteed).
