It was great and beautiful experience to say the least. Our Drivers and guide were all great guys. Trip started by pick up from Amalfi and we went to Pompeii. From Pompeii I was transferred to another car for visit to Mt Vesuvius. Special shoutout for Toni, driver for trip to Mt Vesuvius. A very nice person. Spent 2 hours on Mt Vesuvius, hiking to the top and back down. It was thrilling experience to be on top of a volcano which is technically still considered an active one. Then I was dropped back at Pompeii. Then we had 2 hours of guided tour with our guide Frankie (another special shoutout). He is also a very nice person. Really enjoyed my 2 hours of Pompeii. Such a great experience. Every one should visit Pompeii once if your are in this part of the world. Mt Vesuvius and Pompeii together is the best combo. Can't get any better.

Enter through the excavated Roman gate while your guide explains the history of Pompeii. If you are lucky enough to have Franco (Franky) as your guide you will enjoy my your time navigating these ancient ruins. Follow that with a trip to the volcano. The walk is actually a moderate hike so check yourself if you’re over 50. It’s a bit over a mile to the top and I would guess a 40 or 59 story climb. In July temps on the mountain will approach 40 (100 f). I didn’t quite reach the summit in the hour provided by the guide. Sad but understandable.

Easy on time pick up from our hotel in Ravello by Celeste who was a good safe driver. Juliana was an excellent tour guide in Pompei and whistled us around a 2 hour tour. The ruins are amazing and glad we went early as so packed as we left. We then waited 45 mins for transfer to Versuvius which was a bit pointless . After drive up to Versuvius we were met by a national park ranger who talked about the eruption and rocks . We had expected to walk to top of crater with this tour but only walked for Half an hour until told that was it as the rest of the group had a wine tasting. Not sure if we were joined onto a different tour which meant we were bundled into a shorter Versuvius tour but hey ho check the details of the tour as can be misread🤔. If you need to go to The top and see the crater which we thought we were doing this isn’t the tour for you but otherwise interesting and good transport in area with difficult accessibility links .

This was a very well organised trip - our journey's to and from our hotel were in a private hire car, which was on time and clean. Our tour guide at Pompeii, Christina, was excellent - friendly, knowledgeable and she said her aim was to "make us feel Roman" for the session. She did this. She brought Pompeii to life so that we understood and therefore appreciated it so much more. Without her we would have been clueless as to not only what we were seeing but how it fitted in to their civilisation and way of life. Climbing Vesuvius was fantastic. We'd read reviews about how they say the crater is 20 minutes, but it's really another 40 minutes after that, so we were a little confused and concerned as to how much walking there really was. This tour included Angelo, a qualified volcanologist who explained it all to us. He was superb. The truth is there are two craters - one 20 minutes walk which is the one that destroyed Pompeii and Herculaneum (Monte Somma) which now looks like a meadow in a crater. The other crater is another 40 minutes walk and looks like a volcano crater with steam and is Vesuvius. He explains all of this and so much more to you. If you don't want to go to the second crater he doesn't put pressure on you to go. It is a walk up hill but he adjusts the pace to suit you. You don't have to be super fit to do it, but have some level of fitness more than couch potato, especially if older. The group size at Pompeii was small (9) and climbing Vesuvius was 4. This was perfect for asking questions and moving around. This trip was one of the highlights of our holiday. Highly recommended.
