This not JUST a walking tour nor JUST a cheese and wine tasting. Your guide Michael, the "Cheese Lover", has 20 years experience running his own cheese shop in Switzerland and London, he now spends most of his time talking about cheese, including taking guests on these unique walks.
On his tours you will visit 2 cheese shops and learn how to spot the best cheeses and how to make a perfect cheese board. He'll buy cheeses for his tasting and can also help you to choose cheeses to take home.
The tasting is held in a unique wine shop - it only stocks Dutch Wine!
Michael will then serve the cheeses and explain why they all look, smell and taste different. You'll also learn how the cheeses are made and the history of them. He also has many interesting anecdotes to share about Amsterdam and his world of cheese!
This tour is on Thu and Fri, other tours (inc with beer and walks with luxury canal cruises) are on other days as well as windmill cheese lunches. Contact Michael for details.

This tour was recommended to me by a friend and I was at first a bit skeptical. Oh my goodness, this was a fantastic tour. I can not recommend it highly enough. You will learn so much about cheese and how what you drink with it brings out the various flavors. Additionally you start to learn you way around Amsterdam. You also hear some cool stories about individuals that he has interacted with to this point in his career. If you love (or even just like) cheese do yourself a favor and spend 3 hours doing this awesome tour.

When passion, knowledge, and joy of life converge, you know you are in for a special day. We met up with Michael and went on our cheese tasting odyssey. So many true artisanal cheese shops, that are not your “tourist trap” offerings and an informational walking tour of the entire center city of Amsterdam. We ended up purchasing over 100 euros of cheese to take safely home. We would have never tasted, nor selected these varieties without the educational guidance of Michael. After the walk we settled into a 300 year old tavern (the Wildman) to enjoy a curated cheese board and pair the 6 selections Michael chose for us with beers. I cannot recommend this tour and this true patron of Dutch artisanal products.

We had the best experience on a private tour that Michael, the Cheese Lover created for us. We visited cheese shops, stopped for a basque cheesecake, licorice and chocolate at an adorable dutch candy shop and ended at a brewery with organic beers and sodas. Once settled Michael created the perfect cheese plate with a mix of soft and hard cheeses that paired nicely with the drinks. As we walked through the city Michael shared stories, pointed out things to see in Amsterdam and recommended some great restaurants. His passion for cheese was apparent and he made the whole experience extremely enjoyable. Highly recommend contacting Michael when visiting Amsterdam!

This was a great, very well organized tour led by a superb guide (Michael). Michael's knowledge re cheese is surpassed only by his love of the subject and his adopted country. After visiting two cheese shops, we went to a pub for a cheese tasting (soft cow, goat, smelly cow, hard cow, and blue) paired with several beers. In addition to great stories re past experiences as a cheese monger, Michael provided us with suggestions re cheese selection, pairings, and preparation. Such a fun afternoon, and easily a highlight of our visit to this wonderful city. Communication was excellent during booking and prior to the tour. His multiple 5-Star reviews are well-earned. 100% recommend.

We enjoyed this experience so much. We had a group of 10 people and we thought it was our favorite activity in Amsterdam. Michael was very knowledgeable and we learned all about something old, something new, something stinky and something blue!

This tour was the highlight of our trip to Amsterdam. Perfect combination of walking, talking, shopping and drinking. I wasn't sure that I could trust that all the fabulous reviews were actually real. They are. Michael met us at our hotel, there a brief introductory talk, we went to 2 cheese shops, stopped for coffee/beer and then went on to a pub where we did the cheese/beer tasting. I prefer wine, which was available. Besides learning about cheeses and beer pairings we learned how to select cheeses to make the perfect cheese board. As much as the tasting we loved walking through neighborhoods we wouldn't have found on our own. The next day we went back and revisited several of the locations. In fact, we ran into Michael! The hours just flew by. We learned so much about Amsterdam and the Netherlands. I can't recommend this tour enough. I would suggest doing it early during your visit to Amsterdam so that you have time to revisit any stores or neighborhoods that you liked.
