What To Expect
We meet at the pier at the Hotel Olivedo in Varenna. We board the car that will take us up to the mountains. Travel time will be around 40 minutes. On the way you’ll be able to admire dramatic landscapes, half-abandoned churches, orchards and, of course, the lake. When we reach the parking place we leave the car and the guide will take us on a nice walk through the forest with panoramas of the water surface. The walk will take 20-30 minutes depending on the walking speed. Rising to the very foothills of the Alps, the views will finally open in all their glory. We now get to the picnic area, where you find everything ready for you, a light music in the background, an elegant atmosphere and a magnificent view. We will show you the products we have selected from local farmers and tell you where they come from and the stories behind these places, then leave you to enjoy the atmosphere! We guarantee you will take great photos! The total activity time will be 3 - 3.5 hours. Estimated end of the program: 15.00

5.00We are speechless. Maria blew us away with this private, intimate tour of the Alps’ foothills. She went so far above and beyond to care for our party of four (two couples). The food and location were perfect. But the views…..this is a world class visual experience. We have traveled all seven continents. What we saw today was beyond reckoning. If you want to see Lake Como, there are three ways: boat tour, lakeside, or high above. The latter is this tour and you too will be speechless. Highly recommended.

5.00If you want an experience you will not likely ever forget, book this activity! Maria and her picnickle team create an overwhelmingly beautiful presentation of delicious local cheeses, meats, fruits, breads, dessert, and wine in the most breathtaking spot overlooking Lake Como and Lake Lugano. A dream. Maria is great company as she drove us up the mountain, stopping at a beautiful lookout, and then to a point where we had the opportunity for a gentle walk with the lake view by our side. While we walked the incredible picnic was created. Absolute highlight of our Lake Como visit and we are still talking about it even as we returned home from our trip. Worth more than we paid for a priceless experience!!

5.00We have been on countless tours/excursions this is easily the best of them all. Nothing comes close to it. Amazing scenery, delicious food/ wine, and a guide who I rate a 10 out of 5. Maria was an absolute pleasure to be with. Never rushing you. the picnic does require some walking on unpaved roads but the payoff, once you reached the picnic site, was worth the walk. We have picnicked in Maui, and several US National Parks and nothing comes close to the panoramic views you will see here. We were fortunate to have a perfect weather day which added greatly to the experience. Highly recommend this tour.

5.00Our mountainside picnic experience was spectacular! We were going to do a wooden boat tour but I happened upon this gem and I’m soooo glad I did! ! We were greeted with warmth and genuine hospitality by our host, Maria, whose knowledge of the area and passion for sharing it added to the experience. The setting was breathtaking—perched on a quiet slope with sweeping views of the mountains, valleys, and lakes that seemed to stretch forever. The picnic was beautifully arranged with local meats and cheeses and complemented the natural beauty around us. It was so nice to get out into nature and out of the hustle and bustle of Varenna for the day. This was the best day we had in Varenna! What really made this experience stand out, however, was our host, Maria. Friendly, engaging, and incredibly knowledgeable, she shared stories about the history, wildlife, and hidden gems of the region. It felt less like a guided outing and more like spending the day with a good friend who just happens to know everything about the mountains. Absolutely 100% recommend!

5.00This felt like a once in a lifetime excursion with lovely hosts, Maria and Hayden. There is a relatively flat 30 minute walk along the foothills above Lake Como through a small village. They provided a perfect picnic of charcuterie, fruits, bread, and wine. The views along the way and at the picnic site are unbelievable from about 4,000 ft / 1,350 meters high with views of Swiss Alps to the right and Lake Como and many of its villages to the left and below.

5.00Everything about this tour was great! The drive in the van up the mountain, the views of the alps and the lakes, the picnic food and wine were all great. Haydin led us on a nice hike to the picnic and Maria had set up a great table for 8 looking down on Lake Como. After the picnic we had an hour to explore on our own. Highly recommended.

5.00I came across this little gem on here and as we had a day off from our group tour decided this would a great idea. We were picked up by Maria with another couple and driven to what felt like the top of the mountain. Then an easy walk to the picnic area. Now unfortunately for us it rained but that did not diminish our experience. Maria took us to Roberto's restaurant for an indoor picnic. We had gorgeous meats,breads, local cheeses and beautiful wine, and we all got to know each other. Then we were fed their polenta dish with mushrooms and a plate of tagliatelle bolognese. By the time we finished, the rain had stopped and we walked on to the most breathtaking scenery. We really felt on top of the world! Maria showed us were we should have had our picnic and it was so impressive. She really makes an amazing effort. Such a lovely person that has so much passion for the area. This exclusive picnic is an absolute must do. It's awesome 👌 😁
