We were delighted with Rudy's guide 👍🏻 My favorite state is Chiapas and with such an excellent guide it was a very good experience. He really inspires a lot of confidence, as if we already knew each other. We feel safe and calm, and he has extensive knowledge of everything that the Corpus Christi celebration entails, as well as any questions you may have about his beautiful state. I highly recommend it. Thanks for everything Rudy.

I do not usually take tours when I travel. But i am so glad we decided to take this adventure with Rudi. The first thing that i loved was the intimate size (3 of us), and that we travelled in a very comfortable SUV, instead of a large van with many people. It was so comfortable and conducive to lots of interesting conversations. I am so glad we went with Rudi because we had experiences, and saw things i wouldn’t have seen otherwise. The taller of the master weaver, Cecilia, was amazing, and she shared with us so many details about the textile tradition of the area. The second place we went to was equally as interesting, and very different from the first. Rudi was extremely knowledgeable and passionate about Chiapas and the different cultures of the area. He was low key, interesting and easy to have interesting conversation with. If you are looking for a guide to enhance your San Cristóbal experience, look no further than Experiencias Chiapas.

I’m all the travel experience since I have had, this has been definitely one of the most memorable. If I could get some seven stars, this is, but I would choose. Whether you are a solo traveler, or family or a couple, do not miss this experience. If you are interested in the true culture of this area, indigenous, life, and the strength of indigenous women, this trip is for you!! Rudy is THE BEST!! This is not a touristic experience-this is an authentic experience.

Rudy took us to two amazing places with wonderful artists. We learned about their culture and how they created such beautiful pieces. Rudy was great at translating to English for us and explaining the cultures and beliefs. I bought some beautiful pieces that I wouldn’t have found anywhere else. (No pressure). It was a fabulous day! I would recommend Rudy and will use him for other experiences when we return!

Our tour was private, so we didn't follow the exact itinerary outlined above. Instead we visited first with Cecilia Gomez, master weaver of San Andres Larrainzar, and enjoyed a delicious home-cooked breakfast with her family in her home. After breakfast Cecilia demonstrated weaving supplemental weft on a backstrap loom, and described some of the traditional iconography she is collecting and sampling to preserve it - her 12' long sampler was simply incredible! Then we learned about all the natural dyestuffs Cecilia uses to dye wool: cochineal, marigold, eucalyptus, lichen, and many more. Cecilia has a small store in her studio representing the work of 15 local weavers, and we were amazed at the intricacy of the goods for sale. After making a couple of purchases, we said goodbye and drove to the zocalo for a peek into the church - we were lucky enough to arrive during a festival week mass, and the church was adorned with flowers inside and out and filled with candles and burning incense. Then we stopped in at another weaving home on the outskirts of Chamula that specializes in weaving with wool. Here we saw warp winding, carding, spinning, and learned about the process for making the iconic Chamula faldas. We even took a walk to the field where the owners sheep were grazing and examined the wool on the hoof! We asked a lot of questions, both technical and cultural, and with Rudy's help we learned a lot! If you are a fibre and textile enthusiast, this is a fantastic tour with so much to offer. All the artisans were very accommodating and willing to share their knowledge. As with other Experiencias Chiapas tours, it is a "slow tourism" experience, where you will have time to observe and ask questions and not be shuttled from place to place for a quick photo opportunity. Highly recommended!

Rudy was professional and well knowledgeable of the all the different aspects of Chiapas that make it great. We wanted to meet some local textile artisans and Rudy knew exactly where to take us. He included small surprise stops and made it totally enjoyable. Would highly recommend.

This was such a beautiful experience!! I love it so much. I needed to understand how textiles in Chiapas is as made, and it was so wonderful to be able to speak to an artisan and understand her life and the process. The hosts were so helpful and wonderful. I couldn’t have asked for a better experience in Chiapas.

My favorite part is the direct contact with the craftswomen to know from their own voice the process of each piece that they make is a unique indescribable sensation , the connection that is generated between visitors and natives is worth everything. Letting us into their home and knowing the art they do every day was just magical...
