Try ice fishing for the first time! On a safe frozen lake or river outside Rovaniemi, you will learn the basics of ice fishing, drill your hole and try to catch a fish like a local! Good luck!
The tour has been designed for beginners and travelers who have never ice fished before. It is operated in small groups to fully enjoy the silence of the lake and relax. Your guide will provide you with as many instructions as needed, in English and/or French.
This activity is also recommended for families with smaller kids.

What To Expect
Ice fishing has been part of local culture in the Far North for centuries. Traditionnally it was one of the rare ways to get food in wintertime when the conditions are the roughest. Nowadays, many Finnish people still enjoy sitting on a frozen lake for hours to try to catch their lunch and relax. So, don’t you want to try? After being collected from your hotel, your guide will drive you to some good fishing spots outside Rovaniemi. No need to drive far when you know where to go! You will be shown the basics of ice-fishing, how to drill your hole in the ice, and the different techniques to catch a fish. If you are lucky and get a good catch, your guide will even show you how to prepare it. ICE FISHING EXPERIENCE WITH SNACKS AROUND THE FIRE This tour offers a longer experience in the morning to enjoy the silence and peacefulness of Lapland nature farther away from Rovaniemi city. The fishing time is approximately 2h. Typical Finnish snacks and hot drinks are served around an open fire. If you catch a fish of a decent size, your guide can prepare it and add it to the menu!

Duration: 3 hours: The tour lasts longer so you can enjoy more of time for fishing. You will also go to a more peaceful place outside Rovaniemi.
Finnish snack: An open fire on the frozen lake / river will be lit so you can grill a little lunch snack. Vegetarian option possible.

Fishing experience without fishing

1.00They took us in the afternoon, that is really not advised because it gets dark very soon in the winter. The fishing experience lasted 30 minutes, then the guide went to light the fire. I guess because he realised there was no fish at all in the lake. So at the end we 160 euros to make a hole in the lake, with the agency saying that that was the experience. We just got cold and remain very far away from a real fishing experience. They did not give us even a partial refund of the price paid! It was really a robbery! Try to avoid this agency

5.00Many thanks to Gabriel for his good humor and generosity. She is really a nice person with whom have could spend several days expeditions without being bored. Fishing takes a lot of patience and despite the cold we have not seen the time spent with our children. Then we gathered around the fire to enjoy a barbecue based on vegetable steaks for vegetarians and sausages for those who love meat. I recommend this activity with friends or family!

3.00We got what it said on the tin. However there were no fish and told they hadn’t caught anything all winter. It was good to make the hole with the equipment and have an insight to how it’s done. Scenery is pretty but it was very cold. So wrap up warm. This was the only tour left ideally we wanted the bbq tour but it got cancelled on us twice before. The guide was nice and pick up was timely etc. for me this trip was nothing to write home about.

5.00First ice fishing experience for the whole family. My 5 and 7 year old daughters loved it despite the -17°C. Chris was our guide. He found us a lake with an exceptional view. He was attentive and caring with the children. Fishing + fire on the ice. Change of scenery required. Thank you Chris for this activity we had a very pleasant time. Once again Nordic Odyssey was on top. We did 3 activities with you it was exceptional. I can only recommend you.
