What To Expect
Come aboard for an awe-inspiring adventure on Flathead Lake. Our Wild Horse Island State Park tour begins with a cruise around the beautiful coves of Rocky Point where you will enjoy the fresh Montana air, big blue sky and breathtaking views of the Mission Mountains, Salish Mountains and the peaks of Glacier National Park. We will beach our spacious pontoon boat for easy access to Wild Horse Island so that you can enjoy a leisurely hike filled with spectacular views and chances to see amazing wildlife like Wild Horses, Big Horn Sheep, Deer and more. We wait while you hike, so take as long as you like. When you get back, we will continue our tour exploring the islands and watch the sun go down casting beautifil colors on the mountains. You will be mystified by the reflections on the glasslike surface of the lake. We cater each tour to your interests and spend the time doing what you enjoy. Join us for a memorable tour on the crystal-clear waters of Flathead Lake.

Included in your tour is 6 passengers, but you can add up to 4 more for additional fees.
Food & Water are not included. You may bring your own. We highly recommend that you bring water for the hike. We provide a cooler with ice packs onboard for you.

He is a well-seasoned Captain, and very personal and knowledgeable about the area. Eric shares this knowledge and answers questions, while providing a relaxing, enjoyable cruise. He glides his boat as smooth as glass across the occasional other boat wake. He simultaneously prioritizes safety and a fun, and a no rush experience!

5.00This was such an amazing experience. Eric was so friendly and accommodating. He even stuck it out with us through a little rain on the way to the island! He provided knowledge on local information regarding Wild Horse Island and Flathead Lake - all while keeping it interesting and not long winded! The island was incredible and we were able to see all 5 wild horses! I would highly recommend this tour and experience. It was a wonderful time!
We took a tour of the southern half of Flatheadd lake with a special emphasis on wild horse Island. We saw lots of game.

5.00Our party of 8 really enjoyed our Wildhorse Island boat and hiking tour. We had to reschedule because of weather and they were very accommodating about finding another date/time that would work for us. They even changed the pickup location since our new date time did not allow us enough time to drive from Whitefish to Polsom. Our boat captain was great and provided alot of information about Flathead lake and Montana

5.00Absolutely a fantastic activity to do if you are in the area! We gathered for a family and friends reunion and booked the activity prior to arriving. We’ve been coming to Big Fork since 1965 and absolutely love it here. Captain Eric was really great to work with and always responded quickly to calls or texts with any questions we had. The boat is very comfortable and getting to experience the island with a 2 mile hike — seeing bighorn sheep, mule deer, eagles, and the wild horses on the island was really spectacular! We came away with great memories and are so appreciative of all the time Eric took making sure we learned about the history of the area and that we had a fabulous time! Highly Recommend!

5.00My family just took this tour on July 6, 2025 and it was worth every penny. The evening hour was perfect for this boat and hike tour. Not so hot, lake was less busy and all the animals were out. Our group saw every animal except bear (which are pretty rare on Wild Horse Island). It was perfect in all ways. We had a twelve-year-old, three teenagers and a Mom and everyone loved the tour. Highly recommend.

5.00We enjoyed a private morning boat excursion with Capt. Eric to take in the stunning sights of Flathead Lake, the nearby islands, and the wildlife. We spotted bald eagles, osprey, cormorants, and deer, although we didn’t see any sheep or horses during our trip. We had a wonderful experience and highly recommend this outing to anyone visiting the Whitefish or Polson area. Dress in layers and consider bringing a scarf just in case you need it. Additionally, the drive between Whitefish and Polson (where the boat picks you up) around Flathead Lake offers breathtaking views with many cherry orchards along the way.
