  • Fascinating guided walks through breathtaking valley

Absolutely superb experience! Knowledgeable, passionate and personable guides took us through a landscape which we could not have appreciated without their expertise. We did both the Fox and Franz Josef glacier tours. The Fox Glacier is a longer walk on a public track, while the Franz Josef Glacier walk is easier (suitable for any fitness level) and includes sections that are not open to the public. The views of the glacier themselves are similar on both walks, and it is a great touch that they provide hot drinks and cookies while enjoying the scenery. We learnt so much about the biodiversity of the valley as well as the dynamics of the glacier (and its shocking rate of retreat.) This is a great alternative to a helihike, but also would help you to appreciate such a hike (so it isn’t necessarily an either/or). Being able to borrow coats, umbrellas, boots and hiking poles is also really helpful for our group, though you can easily do the walk in trainers. The owners were a great help in organising for our large group, and accommodating of last minute changes. I cannot recommend highly enough.

Some mix up with regard to pick up, but eventually had a great guided tour with Bella, who was charming & very knowledgeable, pointing out lots of trees, vegetation, birds, etc. She certainly knew her stuff! Nice small group, steady pace. Refreshments by the stream were very welcome!

This trip is simply fantastic, and we both highly recommend. We’re two friends from UK travelling South and North Islands. We were picked up dead on time, and then transferred to the walk by our extremely excellent guide, Belle. Honestly, we had the bestest of afternoons. Belle could not have been kinder, more knowledgeable or downright super brilliant. We smiled until our faces ached. Thank you. If we didn’t live on the other side of the planet, we’d be back in a flash. Thank you again.

  • Great & informative walking tour of the Fox Glacier region.

We had a wonderful time on this trip walking through the forest beside the superb Fox Glacier. Mel was a great guide and regularly stopped on the walk to explain the flora, fauna and/or geology of the area, even providing team and coffee at one particular stop. Would thoroughly recommend this tour to anyone interested in this part of the South Island.

  • Glacier Valley Eco Tours: A Diverse Range of Experiences

Glacier Valley Eco Tours: A Diverse Range of Experiences Glacier Valley Eco Tours offers a remarkable selection of expeditions tailored to both adventure seekers and those who simply appreciate the beauty of nature. Over the course of our journey, we participated in four distinct tours, each providing unique insights and memorable moments. Lake Matheson Nature Tour: Our guide, Louis, infused the day with energy and enthusiasm, sharing in-depth knowledge about the native plants, the area’s rich history, and the variety of birds inhabiting the region. His passion fostered a deeper appreciation for the natural surroundings and made the experience truly enjoyable. Despite less-than-ideal weather, we remained comfortable and dry. The intimate size of the tour, consisting of just the two of us, allowed for a personalised experience and provided the opportunity to closely observe the region’s unique flora and fauna. Okarito Nature Tours: Continuing with Glacier Valley Eco Tours, our experience at Okarito was exceptional. The organisation of the tour ensured everything ran smoothly from start to finish, making for an enjoyable day. We were fortunate to experience ideal weather, with sunshine and a refreshing breeze enhancing the outing. The views stretching across Okarito Lagoon to the imposing Southern Alps were simply breathtaking. Once again guided by Louis, whose extensive knowledge and passion for New Zealand’s native birds and conservation efforts enriched our understanding, we gained fascinating insights into the local ecosystem and its natural heritage. Fox Glacier Nature Walk : Guides Sophia and Cliff led us on a truly memorable walk through the striking landscape of Fox Glacier. Their extensive knowledge of the area, combined with their approachable and professional manner, greatly enhanced our experience. Throughout the nature walk, Sophia and Cliff skillfully pointed out the region’s diverse flora and fauna, a variety of bird species, and unique heritage rocks, deepening our appreciation for the local ecosystem. The adventure was made even more special by crossing streams and exploring the lush rainforest, which added a sense of excitement and discovery. These features, along with the guides’ insightful commentary, provided a valuable understanding of the area’s complex ecosystem and made the tour stand out. For anyone interested in glaciers, this tour comes highly recommended. The breathtaking sight of Fox Glacier’s icy blue hues and dramatic crevasses leaves a lasting impression, making it an unforgettable experience for nature enthusiasts. Franz Josef Nature Tour: The Franz Josef Nature Tour offered a relaxed and unhurried exploration of the region’s stunning landscape. Guided by Bell, whose expertise in the rainforest’s flora and fauna was evident throughout the walk, we gained a deeper appreciation for the natural environment. Bell’s friendly and professional manner made the experience both educational and enjoyable, as we paused often to photograph the impressive glacier. The uniqueness of the tour was further enhanced by the crossing of streams and our journey through the lush rainforest, creating a sense of adventure and discovery. These elements, combined, made the walk truly memorable, offering insight into the area's complex ecosystem. For anyone eager to witness the magnificent blue hues and dramatic crevasses of the glacier, this excursion is highly recommended. It is an awe-inspiring and humbling experience, perfect for nature enthusiasts and those seeking to connect with the remarkable beauty of Franz Josef Peter & Hong (Malaysia) 1st to 4th December 2025

We really enjoyed our walk with our guide Cliff! He was entertaining and very knowledgeable about the area’s wildlife and local plants as well as New Zealand and the region. The walk was not difficult and our guide stopped regularly to allow for photos and questions so it felt well paced. We drank a nice cup of hot chocolate at the top of the hike while enjoying the beautiful view of the glacier. It can get wet so definitely bring waterproof clothes. The guide did have umbrellas if you don’t have one. Definitely recommend!
