Winay Wayna
Our journey starts early in the morning. After our arrival at km 104 by train, the Inca Trail begins with a hike to Chachabamba (2270m/7448f), where your guide will talk about the previous function of this archeological site. Afterwards, we will reach Wiñayhuayna (2650m/8694f), the most important archeological site besides Machu Picchu. Next, the trail continues towards the Sun Gate “Inti Punku” and a wonderful view of nightfall at Machu Picchu (2400m/7874f). Since we have to continue hiking until we reach the bus that takes us to our hotel in Aguas Calientes, we’ll only spend a little time in Machu Picchu on the first day.
BREAKFAST
Breakfast
Machu Picchu
We’ll leave our hotel after breakfast at about 5:30 am, and take a bus up to Machu Picchu. We leave so early because the site is less crowded, and early morning is a good time to enjoy the ancient spirit of the best-known archaeological site on the continent. After arriving around 6:00 am, your guide will give detailed information about Machu Picchu, its history and the culture of the Incas. After this orientation, you will have free time to enjoy and explore the site on your own (for example, visit the Inka Bridge, explore buildings or climb Wayna Picchu, only with an advanced reservation, for an amazing panoramic picture). After the bus takes you down to Aguas Calientes, you can soak in the town’s soothing natural springs (cost 10 soles). We will leave Aguas Calientes in the afternoon by train.

I cannot say enough about Huaynas Expeditions and our guide, Juan. The organization was absolutely brilliant. They were extremely thorough, patient, and professional. I couldn't have asked for more. They were always available to answer any questions or concerns we had; they kept us well-fed and safe, and they motivated us to continue to push ourselves to the next level. Juan has an extensive knowledge of all things of Inca history, and he can answer any questions you may have about the ruins or the history behind them. We were a group of 6 hikers with mixed abilities and we all completed the trail safely. If you are considering a trek, choose Huaynas Expeditions.

This is an amazing experience for a small group of us as we all got super attention from our guide Teo. He is highly educated with his QUECHEA culture which is VERY USEFUL for connecting to the history and culture of the Inca. He speaks English very well, is very friendly and patient, and always has as many stories or myths to share with us at all times. I'm glad we went with Huaynas Expeditions for our 2 days Inca Trek. We had the most amazing pictures taken at the top of Machu Picchu without people in the background. Five stars!!!

We couldn’t have dreamed of a better guide on our 1-day Inca trail experience! Juve was simply amazing, very detailed, fun, encouraging and rich in historical knowledge. He met us at our Airbnb the night before our trip to prepare us and ensure all our questions were answered, which gave us a solid first impression! Had it not been for the Juve and Huaynas expeditions, we would not have had such a quiet and well-organized trip and I loved learning about the history behind Machu Picchu and the Incas. He was also an amazing photographer and filmmaker, documenting our entire journey :) Thank you Juve! In addition, lunch was one of my favorite meals in Peru - I expected a low-quality sandwich, but we had a full-packed lunch with delicious local organic quinoa, vegetables and chicken + salty delicacies and amazing sweets with peach juice and water.

We had a fantastic time on the short way to the Inca. Really well organized, thoughtful and informative tour! Very useful during the booking process also. Best guide, nice team, great experience - and really great lunch in the camp on the trail. I would definitely go back with Huaynas Expeditions!

Huaynas Expeditions, what a wonderful trip we had in Peru! We could not have done it without the dedication of the guide Juan, all our plans for Machu Picchu went without any problem but what made our trip an unforgettable experience was his attention and kindness. This agency makes you feel like you are planning your trip with fully tailored to your needs and making sure that you get what you are looking for. Thank you so much!!

We did the 2-day Inca trail with Huaynas Expeditions. This was the best trip on the entire Peru trip. A group of 6 walked a hiking trail that first went up a tall mountain and then through slightly uphill clifftops to cover a total of 3 mountains. Then, the trail went downhill to the base of Machu Picchu. This trail itself is not an easy one. But, if you are younger and fitter, you can do the more intensive 4-day one. Our guides Juan and Freddy were fantastic! They were always with us throughout the trip making sure we were fine. Definitely was worth it! But please be aware that this trail is not an easy trip, especially if you are not in the best of health, but Huaynas Expeditions guide will help you along the way!
