Small group is the perfect way. The guide on our bus was very knowledgeable about the Northern lights and made sure we had the best opportunity to see them after the lava tunnel. As a solo traveller the guide kept a special look out for me so I didn’t get left behind which was reassuring. The lava tunnel was really interesting. We were given hard hats to wear with lights. Given some safety advice and off we went. What can I say? It’s amazing! So much to see and learn. A great trip and certainly a must if you’re visiting Iceland! And just for info, the flooring may be uneven but I didn’t find it slippy. It’s quite dark, but you’ve got a light on the hard hat. Most importantly though, there are toilets at the start of the lava tunnel and that’s where you return to as well 😉.

I am going to try really hard not to be biased by the fact we did this tour on a night which was incredibly clear and so we caught the lights repeatedly from 7.30pm until midnight at KP4....but given that's why we went, its hard not to be influenced by it. That being said, the lava tunnel tour was really fun. This tour only includes the first bit of the tunnels, but our female guide was knowledgeable, high energy, and very funny. Lots of interesting geology chat and anecdotes about people getting stuck down there.....AND aurora visible through the holes in the roof!! Northern Lights tour guide, Freeman, also knowledgeable and really friendly. Would recommend.

Super competent guides, witty and passionate about their work. The program has been flexible because when there is a chance to see the aurora, you have to take it! The lava tunnel is a unique experience, with your guide Franziska making you an aspiring geologist!

It is impressive what nature has created. It is a lot of bus drive to get to the Lava tunnel. Not much else to see - both guides were passionate and nice. We did other tours, where different things were combined.
