Step beyond the usual cities and discover Lukomir, the last traditional Bosnian nomad village, where life still follows customs passed down for centuries. Located at 1,495 meters above sea level, it is the highest inhabited village in Bosnia and Herzegovina, surrounded by stunning mountain scenery and views over the Rakitnica Canyon.
On the way, you will pass through the peaceful village of Umoljani and see Studeni Potok, a unique stream that curves through the landscape like a snake. In Lukomir, you will enjoy a homemade lunch with a local family, tasting authentic traditional dishes, including vegetarian options.
In winter, if possible, the experience becomes even more special with a snowshoeing adventure through the snowy mountains. This tour is not only about nature, but about meeting local people and experiencing a way of life that still lives on in the Bosnian highlands.

It was unique and absolutely amazing experience! The tour was well balanced, our guide Ahmet was very carrying, he found time to speak with everyone of the group so no one felt left behind. Along the way he was explaining things and sharing his knowledge with all of us, also helping to overcome most difficult parts of the route. The views along the way are astonishing and breathtaking. The old ladies of Lukomir were friendly and you can get a cool hat or authentic gloves for winter season from them! I highly recommend this tour for all pure nature lovers and explorers. Also good thing to keep in mind is that by participating in this tour you are also supporting local community and people of Lukomir. Thank you Meet Bosnia Tours for a wonderful experience!

During my recent trip to Bosnia, I had very much been looking forward to this hike, and I was not at all disappointed. I booked it through Meet Bosnia tours, and appreciated their flexibility when I asked to reschedule the tour due to the weather forecast on the day I had originally scheduled it, which called for rain. When I did join the tour three days later, I was very pleased with the experience. Our guide, Ahmed, was excellent: he was experienced (this was his 73rd hike that he has led in this area), helpful, and friendly....in short, someone who it was a real pleasure to spend a day hiking with. Our tour group numbered four people, in addition to Ahmed, and covered about 16 kilometers (round trip), hiking between the trailhead in Umoljani and the village of Lukomir. The scenery was varied, starting out in a meadow with a stream running through it, but eventually leading us gradually uphill through forests, and then above the tree line (at about 1,500 meters elevation), and to some stunning views of the snow-covered mountains across the valley of Rakitnica canyon. Being spring, we were also treated to a variety of wildflowers along the path. When we reached Lukomir, we had a delicious lunch of traditional Bosnian fare at Captain Teo's, a restaurant that while rustic in appearance, had a variety of dishes to choose from, served with freshly baked bread (they also sell their own brand of rakija for sale, if you'd like to buy a bottle or two to bring back with you). Following lunch, we had time to explore the village, and for those who wished, to buy some woolen goods from some of the friendly locals. It took us about 2.5 hours to get back to Umoljani, and by the time we did, we were pleasantly tired and full of good memories. All in all, I'd rate this hike as the highlight of my trip to Bosnia.

Went with MeetBosnia for the Lukomir hike and it was amazing! Ahmed was our tour guide, and he was incredibly helpful and clearly very skilled at what he does. My mom joined me as she wanted to challenge herself, and it ended up being one of her favorite activities we did in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Huge thanks to Ahmed and the team for an awesome experience!

We had such a great experience with Ahmed our tour guide. He was very informative and helpful to us beginners. We came all the way from Canada and he made our time worth the while. I would definitely recommend. I suggest brining waterproof shoes and a raincoat/jacket. Otherwise you will be good

I had a wonderful time on the tour to Umoljani and Rakitnica Canyon. Given the snow conditions and time of year, a full hike to Lukomir would have been challenging, but Adi adapted the experience perfectly so that everyone could still enjoy the hike. He went above and beyond to make the tour memorable, showing everyone the beauty of Bjelašnica. He shared local folklore, offered thoughtful insights about the landscape and nature, and he created a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere throughout. He was attentive to everyone’s needs, made sure everyone was safe, and ensured that each person got what they wanted out of the experience. His pace was considerate, and he was genuinely a pleasure to talk with. I also want to mention our driver, who was equally kind and thoughtful. He dropped me off at a convenient location on the way back into Sarajevo, which I really appreciated. This tour was a fantastic experience. Please pass along my sincere thanks to both Adi and the driver!

I just want to say that everything was wonderful. At the appointed time, a tour guide in a good car picked us up in downtown Sarajevo and drove us to the village of Umoljani. There were only four people in the group, including me, and everyone was well prepared. We took the long route over Mount Obalj. In Lukomir, we visited a restaurant and bought woolen items from local grandmothers for very little money. The entire journey from Umoljani and back took about 6-7 hours, including all the stops and lunch.

I highly recommend the Funky Tours' hike to Lukomir village if you fancy a day out in the nature. It's a fairly easy but enjoyable walk (easy for a mountain walk). You will be walking alongside a river canyon (or at least this is what my group did but I believe there's an alternative route. Your guide will help to choose the best route. Our guide was fun and passionate about the culture of Bosnia. I've learnt a lot about a range of topics (from difference between Turkish and Bosnian coffee to the history of Lukomir). Overall, it was a lovely experience with the cherry on top : traditional lunch in the village. Thank you, Funky Tours.
