Drive to Al Ahsa is 300km from Riyadh. Start your tour visiting Al-Ahsa Heritage Village. This a a beautiful museum and traditional restaurant. It has dinning area (with tables and chairs) and kurfas (sitting down). The ambience is peaceful and relaxing, they play lite music as well. Place design is traditional which reflected to the name of the place.

  • Jabal Al Qara Mountains and Caves

Jabal Alqara Caves and Mountains Great place to visit either solo or a group. It's best to go there in the evenings after 3 PM. There is usually a long queue to get in early so standing in queue around 3 pm will be ideal. As soon as you enter you will come across a museum with some artifacts and stone statues. There are a lot of boards with history of the mountains mentioned on them, make sure you read them. It throws light on Islamic history. They have a small coffee shop and a gift shop to buy memorabilia. They also have some restaurants near the entrance to dine after your visit. I had food at an Egyptian restaurant. It was decent. Fridays and public holidays would be ideal to visit.

  • If you are willing to pay for a driver...but don't expect a guide

For this fee, I expected a knowledgeable guide...turned out to be a driver service with no guidance provided at the destination...the guide just purchased an entry pass and sent me in with no explanation (while he sat in the car).

  • Nice tour in a very nice landscape

An interesting and intensive day. Very interesting scenery in Al Ahsa. Good service-minded driver/guide with careful driving (by saudi standards....)

  • Drive yourself to this beautiful place.

If you do this tour you are paying for a very expensive taxi especially if you are a solo traveller. USD560 was extortionate. Al qara hills cave complex is beautiful. The jawatha mosque was closed. Nice place but drive yourself. Much cheaper.

So, the al qara caves were beautiful. Well worth a visit. This tour however is not worth paying for if you are a solo traveller. I effectively paid for a very expensive taxi service. The taxi driver Adnan was a very sweet Pakistani guy who was very friendly, kind and I felt very safe with him. But I didn’t have a tour guide. I went around the caves by myself. For USD560 as a solo traveller I would recommend getting a taxi.
