Guest gets the opportunity to catch their own fish, harvest fresh organic herbs for the herbal garden on site, process coconuts to make coconut milk, cook a traditional meal over a traditional stove and enjoy the delicious food of their labor. The experience is topped off by learning how to play the Garifuna drums.

Step into the Baba Sandu Spiritual Center, where our knowledgeable guides will enlighten you about the rich history of the Garifuna people. Stroll through our lush herbal garden, where you'll discover the secrets of traditional herbs. Culinary Adventure: Head to our cultural kitchen, where you'll cook over an open fire stove known as a fire heart. You'll prepare a mouthwatering dish called 'Hudut', a staple in Garifuna cuisine. Savor the fruits of your labor as you indulge in the exquisite flavors of Hudut. Conclude your adventure on a high note with a captivating Garifuna drumming session led by our master instructor.

5.00This was a well-rounded experience and we recommend it highly. We spend the day immersed in several aspects of the Garifuna Settlement including a discussion of their history, exploring the flora, cooking, and drumming. The cooking (and eating that food) was a particular highlight. The hosts are friendly and knowledgeable. This experience absolutely worth the time and money. We had a wonderful time.

5.00First of all I just want to say thank you to everyone involved with this tour. The fishing experience was one in a million, then the cultural history and cooking.. there are no words. Drumming was an added bonus! My boyfriend and I couldn’t stop talking about the experience when we got back to our Airbnb. The natural love for the culture was above anything and we have been to many places and done tours but nothing compared to this experience. Thank you thank you!

5.00I had a great experience on this excursion. Our hosts were very informative and made learning about Garifuna culture fun. Felt like part of the family. Highly recommend coming prepared for all the mosquitoes if visiting during rainy season. Also Uwahnie is an amazing host! 🥭

5.00Palmento Grove was one of the highlights of our trip! Being able to experience the beauty of the space, to learn more about local culture and traditions and to actually try our hand at weaving, cooking and drumming was fun for me and my daughter. Uwahnie brought such joyous energy and passion to brighten the entire experience and make us feel welcome. Highly recommend!

5.00We did the morning fishing with a local guide in kayaks and caught numerous red snapper. Great fun. Then met the super friendly and chill staff and had a fun, fascinating and delicious time learning about Garifuna culture, making a meal with the fish we caught and having a drumming lesson. Easily the best day of our 15 day Belize trip.
