Potamies
Starting from your hotel we head to “Potamies” an Authentic Cretan village. There we will make our first stop, in a traditional mitato where we will meet a local shepherd with his family. We will see how the cheese is made after first milking the milk from the goats and then we will learn how the flour is made in the traditional herromily. Those who wish can taste from the traditional products of the shepherd, such as cheese, raki and oil.
Aposelemis Dam
Wandering among the gardens of the village with the fresh fruits and vegetables of the season and the aromas we will reach the dam of Aposelemis, the largest water supply project in Crete. We joined the Cretan Life tour with SafariExperts, and it was one of the absolute highlights of our stay on Crete. Everything was perfectly organized from start to finish — smooth communication, punctual pick-up, and an itinerary that offered a great mix of culture, nature, and local life. A special thank-you to our amazing guides Manos and Nikolos – both were incredibly knowledgeable, funny, and full of positive energy. They managed to show us the island through the eyes of real Cretans, with stories, humor, and genuine passion for what they do. The tour was not only informative but also a lot of fun – beautiful landscapes, authentic stops, great food, and just the right amount of adventure. Highly recommended to anyone who wants to experience the true spirit of Crete in a personal and professional way. Thank you, SafariExperts, Manos, and Nikolos, for a wonderful day!

What a tour. Nick was incredible, his knowledge and his enthusiasm about the Cretan way of life was brilliant and my wife and I loved it, driving skills were impressive too! Make sure you wear decent shoes as I wore sandals and regret is slightly! Must do when in Crete!

A fantastic day out with our knowledgeable driver and guide Vagelis. A wonderful way to see more of the island of Crete, and learn about the traditions of the area. Stunning views of inland Crete, with exciting off road driving, to a curated song list at times! Highlights included a fun visit to the goat farm near Potamies, where we tried fresh goat's cheese, and honey raki. Milked (or tried to milk) a goat, had a go at milling corn into flour with heavy millstones, fed some more goats, and had the opportunity to buy the farmer's honey and olive oil (which we did). We also visited a pottery workshop and made our own small pot (with help!) to take home. Opportunity to purchase more beautiful ceramics at the shop. Learned about the windmills at Lasithi plateau, and how they were used before modern electric water pumps took over. Stopped at a cafe there for refreshments. The cooking lesson showed us how to make tzatziki and stuffed vegetables/vine leaves, which I plan on trying at some point at home (especially tzatziki, which I love!) This was followed by our delicious lunch, cooked in the wood oven (orders were taken for pork or chicken at the start of the tour, so they could be slow cooked and ready for us when we arrived). Final stop was at an olive factory in Malia, showing all the processes of making olive oil, and learning how the by products of crushed olive stones are used. Another chance to purchase olive related products in the factory shop. Definitely recommend this tour.

We booked a full day jeep safari which was one of the highlights of our trip to Sissi in Crete. Our driver Nicos picked us up from our hotel then a further couple of stops to pick up the rest of the group who were all up for an adventure. The day certainly lived up to our expectations. The highlights, goat feeding and milking, donkeys, lasithi plateau, ceramic factory, cooking lesson, fabulous lunch, raki, olive oil factory plus an another couple of unexpected stops along the way. Our group had such a laugh and Nicos our guide was the best. If I ever hear the song again “I like to move it” we will instantly be transported back to this day. Thanks for the memories Jayne and Kumar x

Nice tour to see some of the island and get to know the history of life on Crete. Small ceramic pots of baking together with the experienced potter, milking a goat and getting an explanation on how to make stuffed vegetables tzatziki are some of the stops. The word cooking class is a bit exaggerated, but no less a top tour. My guide Andreas finished the day with his information and humor!!!
