Howick Falls
Depart from Durban at 7am and head to Howick Falls which is in a small town a few kilometres past Pietermaritzburg. Howick Falls are simply breathtaking, and the deafening rush of water from the viewing deck is incredibly relaxing and mystifying at the same time. At 95m, they're the same height as Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe and date back to when Kwazulu Natal was first inhabited by man. Several arts and crafts stalls can be found on the viewing platform and along Morling Road which leads down to the falls.
Nelson Mandela Capture Site
From Howick Falls we proceed to tour the Nelson Mandela Capture Site. Here is where Nelson Mandela was captured and sent to serve the 27 year prison term in Robben Island. The Nelson Mandela Capture Site commemorates the moment in history with a visitor centre which house an Apartheid Museum with a lot of information pre South Africa's independence in 1994 and a world renowned sculpture of Nelson Mandela.
