We were greeted by Fortune in an immaculately clean vehicle and once at the reserve he ensured we saw everything on offer. Snippets of relevant information were offered about each animal which added interest along the way. One negative was the EXTREMELY bumpy tracks throughout the reserve - most uncomfortable! Although not the “big five” it proved to be a good half day trip from our cruise ship especially for me as it was the first time I’d ever seen such animals outside of a zoo!

Zulu tours in front of the port building not recognizable, chaotic distribution to different buses. As a person with a walking disability, I was asked to change buses twice without assistance. I had to wait 40 minutes in the rain for another bus, which then did not come. I got back on the previous bus. Bus completely unsuitable, seats were above the hubcaps, with no legroom. It was an ordeal sitting there. The bus departed after an hour delay. As planned, the half-day safari went to the elephants first. I was worried that you wouldn't be able to spot them among the trees or bushes through the rain-fogged bus windows. To my horror, two elephants stood in a small gate , in a meadow. The poor animals had little space, they had to stand directly on the fence so that the tourists could touch them whether they wanted to or not. This presentation is incompatible with animal welfare and welfare. Unfortunately, I had to watch this cruel scene. The "safari" then continued to the next zoo. At the entrance, a bus had broken down in the mud in the middle of the path. We couldn't get past. The bus now waited about an hour for the broken down bus to be pulled out of the lane. The rain had not stopped since this morning when a suitable tow truck arrived. The tour guide now informs passengers that it is not possible to continue on other routes into and through the park because of the rain. This is not surprising, since the rain always softens the paths in the park, as I learned there , so that they become impassable. So the "half-day safari" should not have been started at all. The bus then went back to the ship and reached it at 1:45 p.m. So after about 6 hours, for the "half-day safari" were indicated 5 hours. Valuable vacation time wasted to experience a useless ride through the rain and to have to look at merciful elephants.

This was truly such a fun and unforgettable experience. My mom and I lucked out and we were the only ones on the tour. I got to get up close to the most beautiful elephants and I even got to feed them! The reserve we went on was also amazing we saw so many animals from rhinos, zebras, wildebeest, ostriches, giraffes, etc. Our tour guide was so sweet and knowledgeable. He made sure that we got to get as up close and personal with the animals as we could. He would not stop until we got to see the giraffes. He even put me on to some new amapiano songs on the ride over to the reserve! We had the best time and would highly recommend this tour if you visit

We only had a short amount of time in Durban but wanted to have a wildlife experience. We certainly were not disappointed, our driver Joseph was very punctional picking us up and took us on the drive to experience the elephants. From here we went the Tala game reserve were we were treated to a two hour experience where we got to see Rhinos, giraffes, hippos to name but a few in a natural environment. We had another event to be at and Joseph made sure we were back in time for that and even dropped us off where we needed to be. A very enjoyable day.

Long drive, Durban is in my opinion only very limited recommended for safaris, there are much better places. We were on a large farm with various animals and then in a small enclosure with lions. Nice but there's much better. Price was cheap

We had a great experience visiting animal parks with zulu Safari. We had initially booked for two parks but unfortunately the lion and the elephant parks were closed due to bad weather. But the tour operator Sotiris Spetsiotis rearranged for a second day tour for us without any extra cost. The guides where very friendly and informative. They threw light on zulu lifestyle. Overall the experience was great. We highly recommend this tour. Please note that the lions and elephants were confined to a relatively small area so it was not a real life open forest Safari.

Hotel pick up was super easy, all journeys were short so not too much travelling. Fortune was a great host.

Our ship had been rerouted to Durban, due to bad weather, only the day before. This resulted in 3000 passengers suddenly having to find something to do. A considerable number of these, naturally, picked the top rated Durban trip on Tripadvisor. This caught the operator, Zulu Safaris, by surprise. They turned up with too few vehicles and embarkation was chaotic, delayed and resulted in us being squashed into small, dark minibuses rather than the open sided jeep-style safari vehicles we were expecting. It was claustrophobic, extremely uncomfortable, with very poor visibility. We discovered that we would be stuck in these vehicles all day, only when we stopped at a services an hour or so after leaving the port. Our guide who was charming but whose name we did not catch, was unable to get us back to the ship, leaving no option but to continue even though we could see nothing and could not hear any commentary. The outing would have been a totally unpleasant, pointless and expensive waste of our precious day in Durban had it not been for the kindness of the guide, who gave up her seat for me, and the driver who was pleasant and informative company throughout. We appreciate that we all turned up at very short notice and that lots of vehicles were involved in the football match the night before, but we feel that Zulu Safaris should have limited the number of bookings to their capacity to cope on the day in order to give guests the proper safari experience they felt they were paying for. Full credit to the guide and the driver for the exemplary way they coped in such difficult circumstances. We did eventually get to see the animals we had hoped to see, if rather more contained than we had expected to find them.

We had a splendid time visiting the National Lion Park and the Tala Game Reserve. Our guide, Zamani, has excellent knowledge of the animals, and we thoroughly enjoyed his explanations about them and their behavior. We took our time seeking out the animals and truly appreciated observing them in their natural habitat. He’s definitely the “rhino spotter” — he wears the nickname well! I highly recommend Zamani and 1st Zulu for your game drives.
