What To Expect

Marble trout, the most well-known and recognizable fish of the river, carries with it a rich history, stories, and biological intricacies shaped by the course of history. As the name suggests, the Soča (Isonzo in Italian) River witnessed the Isonzo Front during World War I, leaving behind remnants and traces of historically significant battles encountered at every turn during fishing. Understanding and experiencing a place that is visited for the first time, foreign and unfamiliar, means grasping and acknowledging its history and culture. In addition to guided fishing, we will explore the hidden corners of the past together, visiting historical and cultural monuments, as well as remnants of battle lines and bunkers along the way. With the help of good weather, we will behold the surrounding peaks in all their beauty, including the highest in the country, Triglav.

I had the privilege of spending a day fly fishing with Gusti, and it was an unforgettable experience. He is not only a highly professional and skilled guide, but also one of the kindest and most patient people I’ve met. With him, I learned far more than just fishing techniques, I gained insight into the biology of the river, the history and stories of the Soča, and the delicate balance of its ecosystem. Gusti is a true passionate human being, and his love for the river and fly fishing is contagious. Time with him felt less like being with a guide, and more like sharing the water with a teacher, storyteller, and friend. It was a privilege to learn from him, and I can wholeheartedly recommend him to anyone who wants to experience the Soča River in the most meaningful way.

It was the most incredible fishing experience I've ever had. I went from having no experience with fly fishing to taking beautiful pictures of holding rainbow trout. I truly recommend!

Domn (aka Gusti) picked me up at 6am for a day of fly fishing. I had never fished in Slovenia so I was hoping for a guide that could show me the ropes. Domn knew everything about the river. He knew where we should be, what flies we needed to be throwing, and he was spotting fish for me that I could not see. I think of myself as a decent fisherman, but he was a master of his craft and I would 100% hire him again to hunt the fish of the Soča.

I went fishing with Domen, although I dont catch many fish many times, but with his knowledge of the river and many years of experience as a fisherman, he led me to catch a beautifull rainbow trout. He taught me a new techniqe called Euro Ninfing on the fly, thanks to the aformentioned catching technique I caught a fish. We were fishing in a great place near the BOKA Hotel, where we had a drink at the the and of the day. I had a great day with a great guy. I really racomend.

Our experience with Domen was top-notch, he was really knowledgeable about the techniques of flyfishing. I was also impressed by his knowledge of the history of Soča Valley. Overall a wonderful experience, which I would recommend to anyone who has a slight bit of an interest in flyfishing.
