Wenchi Crater Lake is 155 km west of Addis Ababa, between Ambo and Weliso. An extinct volcano, the top of which is 3380 meters above sea level, is a crater that contains a large lake, hot mineral springs, waterfalls, beautiful valleys and farmland. There is an old monastery with a church situated on one of the lake islands.

What To Expect
Wenchi Crater Lake & Hiking
We will be driving to the west from Addis Ababa to Lake Wenchi Its 155 km west of Addis Ababa, on the way to Ambo and Welliso road this lake was an extinct volcano (the top of which is 3380 metres above sea level) the crater contains a large lake, hot mineral springs, waterfalls and beautiful valleys and farmland and monastery of Kirkos and the hot spring valley. After the visit, return to Addis Ababa. Later you will be transferred to where ever you want for your departure.

5.00Ethio Travel and Tours were were friendly and professional to deal with and felt like a great local companion to help plan my Ethiopian experience. I had the same guide Biruk and driver Fakr for several tours and they were fantastic: capable, informative and friendly. Wonchi lake itself is beautiful and absolutely worth the trip out from Addis. The gorge walk particularly was some of the most beautiful scenery I've seen anywhere. Would thoroughly recommend Wonchi Lake and Ethio Travel and Tours

3.00Very long drive. 4 hours there not 2 hrs. So 8 hours in total. The lake is beautiful but only there for around 2 hours including lunch. If the description had been accurate I would not have booked as 8 hours in a car is not fun in 1 day.

4.00Albeit long the destination was worth the travail getting there. Took a boat ride on the lake to an island there. There was road construction on the way slowing our progress but hopefully future travelers will have smooth roads. On the way back we were stooped by military authorities who apparently were displeased by our speed of transport. After looking at our passports and hearing the driver's explanation that this was a tour we were given permission to continue back to Addis Ababa. I would live to add photos of my trip but my phone was stolen on my last day in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
