There are few landscapes that excite the travelers as much as a visit to the enchanting Meteora.
The gigantic rocks with the breathtaking volume and height, as they sharply arise in the edge of a big flatland, interrupt the smooth landscape like they were unreal, form part of an impressive geological phenomenon that you can’t miss the chance to observe closely. Moreover, the human intervention in this eerie scenery is astonishing: Monasteries built in the highest point of the rocks, seem to hover between earth and sky, between human and divine element. In 1989, Meteora was added in the list of the World Heritage of UNESCO.

Be aware that this is a long day. The tour runs from 8 AM to 8 PM. Six hours of the trip is driving from Thessaloniki to the monasteries and back, plus all the driving in between to and from the monasteries. There is a lot of traffic around Thessaloniki to contend with. There was also a significant amount of climbing stairs. but it was definitely worth it. The monasteries and surrounding area are breathtaking. The only negative about this trip is that they played rap music on the bus on the way up. On the way back they played much more pleasant music, so maybe someone said something. Hopefully they will not do this again, or you could mention it at the start of the trip. The restaurant that they took us to for lunch is in a beautiful setting and had good food. Entrance to the monasteries is cash only. Try to avoid the trip on a holiday, as I went on Easter Monday and it was crazy busy. The bus driver was excellent at maneuvering through the streets filled with cars.

Very well organized. Very prompt. New tour guide but she did a fantastic job. When we were at lunch she went to every table and made sure that all was well. The restaurant that was recommended at lunch was excellent. Meteora was worth the visit.

Pick up was on time from the statue. Interesting coach ride, passing Mount Olympus in the snow. Stopped half way at a services. Went to one monastery and one nunnery in the amazing rock formations. Took lots of spectacular photos. Lunch stop was expensive but delicious. You could avoid the expense by taking a packed lunch. Personally, I would like a little more information about the geography and history, but the day out was amazing!

The pickup location was easy to access via taxi (used Uber app). There were several groups there but our guide, Constantina found us. Pick up time was 8am. We had a full group of probably 50 people. The bus was large, clean and comfortable and has USB charging ports. The drive was about 3-1/2 hours from Thessaloniki but we stopped after 1-1/2 hours for a break at an AutoGrill which was large and had clean restrooms. We visited the St. Stephen and St. Valaarm monasteries. Our driver also stopped at a great viewing point for pictures. Lunch was at a very nice restaurant called Restaurant Meteoron Panorama which had good food and an amazing view. We were back to Thessaloniki about 7:30pm. I think this was a great tour at a reasonable price.
