What To Expect

Eyre Square, in the heart of Galway City, is officially known as the John F. Kennedy Memorial Park. The square has a rich history dating back to medieval times when markets took place on the green in front of the town gates. A memorial of the US President Kennedy, who was made a Freeman of the city, marks the spot where he made a speech to approximately 100,000 Galway people in 1963, on his last trip before his assassination.

Lynch's Castle

Lynch’s Castle, it is a striking example of a medieval fortified house. The castle is four storeys high with embellished carved windows, gargoyles and ornamental mouldings and cornices. Built by the powerful Lynch family as a protection from raids, parts of the limestone building may date back to the 14th century but the bulk of it was built in the 16th century. The Lynches, of Anglo-Norman descent, were one of the powerful 14 tribes who ruled Galway.

Took a private walking tour of Galway with our guide Arthur.Arthur is a life long Galway man and has spent almost all of his 72 years running his shop in Galway ! He retired recently and now his vast knowledge is available to anyone who wants to take his tour. His tour is lively and informative and he adds a great local touch to it. Even though he is 72 you may be challenged to keep up with him! Lots of local insights and be prepared to stop a few times as he seems to know everyone on the street!

  • The weather didn’t...

The weather didn’t cooperate but Arthur was a true champ. We had a wonderful time learning about the history of Galway, getting the low down on numerous noteworthy landmarks and hearing about Arthur’s own experience growing up in the area. He loves this corner of the world and boy does it show. Despite the (not unexpected) wet and dreary day, we had a wonderful time and would highly recommend this tour to all Galway first timers.

Arthur was an excellent guide as being a lifelong Galway resident. We learned and saw so much with him. I would definitely recommend him to anyone planning a personal tour. He was able to answer all our questions and had some great stories. It made us look at the details on buildings to figure out what time period they were built or who the residents were that built it originally.

First of all, Arthur met us in our hotel, which is very close to the starting point of the tour he gave us a brief history of Galway and Ireland. Arthur was so extensive in his knowledge of Galway and things that we would not have seen without him. Galway is a beautiful city rich in history and culture. Arthur also gave us recommendations on food and shops. This is a must do tour and hopefully you will be as lucky as we were to get Arthur as your guide thank you, John and Erick from Chicago.

We were lucky enough to get Arthur as our tour guide of Galway. This was one of my favorite tours in Ireland. Arthur was so personable and detailed on the history making it informative, but fun. I feel we saw details that we would not have seen if we weren’t with him. Galway was one of our favorite cities. This is definitely a do not miss Tour.

  • A True Irish Gentleman in Galway

Arthur is the real deal. As a man, I can say he’s the kind of guide you respect instantly — knowledgeable, genuine, and grounded. He took me through the Spanish Quarters, the old city walls, and the docks, weaving in the history of the Tribes of Ireland with ease and authority. We started in sunshine, got hit with rain, and then were back to blue skies — all four Irish seasons in one tour — and Arthur never missed a beat. He’s the guy who makes you feel like you’re seeing Galway the right way. And ladies, take note: he’s a true Irish gentleman, so you’ll feel completely comfortable and taken care of. This is a tour you don’t want to miss. ⸻ Arthur, thank you for an incredible walking tour. Your command of Galway’s history — from the Tribes of Ireland to the city walls — was impressive, and you made the entire experience feel effortless. You kept the pace just right and carried us through sunshine, rain, and back again with a sense of fun. You’re not just a guide, you’re the guy people should see Galway with.
