The trek offers the spectacular mountain scenery along with charming villages inhabited particularly by the Gurungs & Magars, dense rhododendron forests full of birds and deep sub-tropical valleys, all set below the Annapurnas with the picturesque peak of Machhapuchhare (Fishtail Peak) dominating the skyline.
One of the important highlight of this trip is to make a climb on Poon Hill. When sun rises, it touches the snow-capped summits the Himalayan giants, Dhaulagiri (8,167m) and Annapurna (8,091m) along with a maze of other peaks, there gradually appear, just like magic that your eye could not believe.

After morning breakfast in the hotel, the tour starts through 25 minutes flight from Kathmandu Airport to Pokhara. In Pokhara we visit the deep, narrow gorge of roaring Seti River from where we drive to Davi’s Falls and further to Gupteswar Cave and the Bat Cave. In the evening we go lazing by the Phewa Lake for the leisurely row on its sparkling waters. After breakfast we drive 41km/25 miles to Nayapul for the start of our trek. A steep trail from Nayapul directs us down to a bridge over a small stream to get to Birethanti, a large and prosperous village. From Birethanti we take the left branch of the trail on the west side of the bridge at the ACAP Check post where we need to show ACAP permit and TIMS Card. Following the trail through main streets of Birethanti, winding through bamboo forests and past a large waterfall and swimming hole we reach Sudami beyond a pasture used by caravans. We climb steadily up the side of the valley to reach Hille and about 15 minutes above Hille is the Tikhedhunga. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Crossing the magnificent oak and rhododendron forests the trail passes through two sparkling clear streams, a small ridge and another stream before making final climb to another Magar village of Nangathanti (2460m). We met Sujan at the Holiday Expo in the Netherlands and asked him to make an itinerary for 3 weeks in Nepal. This resulted in a very nice personalized programme. Sujan had arranged everything into detail, from hotels, private transport, trekking guides, to bike rental places. Even when our flight was cancelled and our arrival delayed by 3 days, Sujan rescheduled our full trip so that we did not miss anything. We are greatly thankful to Alpine Club of Himalaya to take away all our worries and organize this unforgettable trip.

Enjoyed the trip! Beautiful nature and surroundings and good support from the Alpine Club of Himalaya team which responded quickly to our questions and was flexible with our itinerary. We’d consider doing another tour with Alpine Club of Himalaya and will refer to friends interested in trips in the region.

This four night trek was one of the best experiences out of our month long trip. We wanted to see another culture, and get some exercise and we got exactly that! First off are you fit enough to do this? Well, it was fairly arduous walking but if you are moderately fit you will be fine. The heat makes it much harder and there is a fair bit of up and down. To give you an idea of how hard it is - on our hardest day we walked for 13 kilometres, ascended 1,100 metres and descended 600 meters, and it was hot at about 30 Celsius. We are a reasonably fit couple in our 60s and found it fine. An advantage of being tired at the end of the day is that you sleep better! Which brings me to the accommodation. What we were after was an understanding of a different culture and we certainly got that. It was a joy to be in a house with the daily activities just going on around us. Because there was only the two of us we didn’t feel that we were changing the balance of daily life in the house. We stayed in three different houses all of which we enjoyed. That said, the more remote Lahu village that we stayed in for two nights was the stand-out experience. The food was exceptionally good. We ate rice, very fresh vegetables, salads leaves, bamboo, fish, and chilli sauce. Watching the cooking take place was part of the low key drama we enjoyed so much. I’m not normally a fan of too much spicy heat, but I developed a fondness for the chilli sauce that always accompanied the rice. The trip worked so well because our guide was so good. He was considerate and knowledgable, often commenting on the plants as we walked. A pleasant surprise was that at the end of our first day a second guide joined us. He was equally courteous and seemed to know people every where. The guides’ deep knowledge of the area was obvious, both of the plants and the people we met. Something that we came to see as a bonus was that we were not really sure what was happening next. There was always a plan, it was just that we didn’t always know what it was. Once we had decided to relax and just go with the flow this worked very well for us. Our guide’s English was good, but didn’t really extend to a back and forth conversation. Some aspects of the walk were better than others. In our first accommodation we were in an annex at the back of the house which was good, but not the stellar experience in our house for the following two nights where we were part of the circle sitting round the fire in the middle of the house, not understanding a word of the lively conversation but enjoying its ebb and flow. Just before the enjoyable boat trip back down to Chiang Rain we were shown the elephants; I understand that they are popular with many but we thought it was pretty sad to see such magnificent animals shackled and shifting constantly from leg to leg. Overall this trip easily scored 5 out of 5 for us.

I had a great time as a solo traveler doing the Poon Hill trek! Sujan was helpful in answering my questions and organizing everything, and was really flexible (for example, I didn’t need a hotel the night before the trek, so he transferred that to the night after). He also took me to dinner when I got back to Kathmandu - always nice to have company when you’re a solo traveler! The guide (Nima) was also great. Very responsive to the speed I wanted to walk and nice to chat with. Kept me caffeinated with tea and coffee along the whole route, including at the sunrise summit, which was a nice touch :) The trek overall was beautiful! Beware, there are a LOT of stairs! But if you’re looking for something you can do in just a few days, this is the one for you!
