This is a private tour of the remnants of "old Paris" - the city that existed in the Middle Ages and Renaissance, the city of hidden castles, imposing renaissance palaces & baroque mansions, medieval timbered houses, leafy courtyards hidden behind carriage doors, charming squares & public fountains.
You will learn about the city's history, its rich architectural & cultural background, through researched commentary developed by a historian. Learn how the city was transformed (1853-1870) from a medieval warren of densely overpopulated streets to a modern city with broad avenues, city squares & parks, trees....and the world's 1st system of gas lighting.
You will also see firsthand the nuances of Gothic vs Baroque architecture & art. By visiting the mansions & churches of the Marais we will see the transition from medieval Gothic to renaissance Baroque architecture & discover the rich past (and present) of this picturesque & trendy neighbourhood.
Corporate & school groups are welcome.

We really enjoyed our time with our guide, Ellen. It was not only informative but fun as well. Ellen introduced us to cathedral, architecture and very delicious pastries. I'd recommend this tour if you have a couple of hours and want to learn more about the Marais area.

Loved our tour. Ellen was extremely knowledgeable, full of interesting anecdotes and took us to hidden treasures that we would never have found on our own. She brings her tablet so you can see historic pictures that highlights the profound changes that have happened in Paris. We loved the cheese tasting! Ellen is a real treasure, very generous with her time and by the end we felt like we were saying goodbye to a friend and not a tour guide.

Ellen was excellent. Knows her stuff on history, architecture and culture. Tour focussed on the Marais after an overview about Hausman. She pointed out buildings and details one would miss or not appreciate. Just the tour that I needed.
