Depart Melbourne 7.30am from outside the National Gallery of Victoria, St Kilda Road We head off from Melbourne and down the iconic Great Ocean Road stopping en-route in Anglesea for morning tea and a comfort stop. Arriving in Apollo Bay we prepare for or afternoon walk. Today we begin at Marengo Beach – home to a colony of Australian Fur seals which hang out on the rocks in the bay. Your Park Trek guide will lead off and along the way explain some of the local history. Following the GOW trail, we enjoy excellent views along the coast looking south-west towards Cape Otway and north-east over the ranges surrounding Apollo Bay. We descend down to a beach for a rest before heading into a small section of Otway rainforest. The trail enters forest then starts to climb into higher forest of the Great Otway National Park just above Shelly Beach. Delicious two-course dinner prepared by guides at Cape Otway Lightstation

Great Ocean Road
Today’s walk begins from Cape Otway Lightstation. The walk from the lighthouse winds its way through wind sculpted landscapes of sand dunes, coastal scrub-land and magnificent calcified cliffs. At Aire River Lookout there are great views down to the estuary where the Aire River meets the Southern Ocean and Glenaire Beach. Following on from Aire Rive we have a further 6km walk through to Castle Cove. From Aire River the track heads inland for a while, climbing up and around the next headland through tea-tree forests, it then continues along the coastal path with sweeping views of the rugged coastline. Expect some ups and downs with a little climbing before you get to Castle Cove. Located on a spectacular bend of the Great Ocean Road at Glenaire, Castle Cove is a beautiful beach surrounded by towering cliffs which have high archaeological significance. Sensational two-course dinner prepared by guides at Cape Otway Lightstation.

After breakfast and lunch making we hit the trail and walk from Milanesia Beach, via Ryan’s Den to Moonlight Head. From Milenesia Gate we descend to a beautiful and remote beach. Isolated, rugged and hidden, Milanesia Beach receives few visitors and is all the more special for it. From here the trail continues along the high sea cliffs to Ryan’s Den with breathtaking views all the way back to Cape Otway and west to Cape Volney. This is usually our lunch spots and one of the most scenic locations along the walk. From Ryan’s Den the track continues through coastal forests that lead over Cape Volney to Moonlight Head. After breakfast and lunch making we head out on our last day walk which follows the cliff lines of the Great Ocean Walk finishing at the iconic Twelve Apostles. The walk is easy to moderate nature, allowing plenty of time to soak up the views. The walk starts above the wetlands around Princetown which supports a wide variety of bird life. We walk down through the Gellibrand River Estuary and reconnect with the Great Ocean Walk trail. We are now on the home stretch into Port Campbell National Park and the world-famous Twelve Apostles soon come into sight. The last kilometre of the Great Ocean Walk takes you through to the Twelve Apostles Visitor Centre where you can view the Apostles up close. We usually have our lunch here and then head back to Melbourne via the inland route.

Sometimes when you finally get to do a trip which was one your must do it fall short of your expectations. Not Park Trek. They exceed my expectations and more. Everything was taken care of. The walk covered all the highlights with a good mix of challenges and easier days After a long day on the track it was wonderful to be picked up and transported back to accomodation, which suited the ambiance of the area, to be served fresh delicious food by our supportive caring guides

A really enjoyable holiday including a small group of 6 travellers plus 2 guides who couldn't have been more helpful. It was well organised and the walking levels as described in the trip notes. We walked through very varied countryside and the coastal views were breathtaking. The accommodation was comfortable and the food good.

I enjoyed this trip. The views and environment were amazing. The guides are informative and nothing is too much trouble. The accommodation was centrally located and comfortable, but we had one bathroom between five people. I think another bathroom was under repair. Not too much trouble though. The food (snacks and main meals) was excellent, wit h quite a few choices for snacks, breakfasts and lunches.

This is such a beautiful place to explore and the accomodation at the Cape Otway Lighthouse was special and relaxing. I highly recommend and thank our guides, Graham, Lorinda & Liz, for making it a fantastic experience. They were down to earth and friendly which made us feel comfortable straight away. They went above and beyond to make sure all our needs were met, were very knowledgeable about the area and made sure we reached our final destination despite a few obstacles created by the weather. All our meals and snacks were beautiful and there was plenty to go around. Our guides kept us safe on the tracks with tips on using poles, keeping a pace suitable for everyone and helping us over fallen branches. Nothing was too much trouble - even attending to the odd blisters!

Our guides, Lorinda, Graham and Liz, were all very personable, skilled in group dynamics and had great senses of humour! Their ability to cope with unexpected detours and changes to the itinerary due to the weather was inspiring and I always felt safe and cared for. The meals were very tasty, nutritious, plentiful and varied - what a gem you have in Lorinda…she even does trivia quizzes on the bus.

A beautiful coastline and great walk, facilitated by kind and knowledgeable guides, and really great customer service from the office team at Park Trek. We had some adverse weather on our trek which the guides handled masterfully, redirecting our walks to new locations and ensuring that all participants had a good time. Make sure you can have the Cape Otway lighthouse accommodation option! We will be booking with Park Trek again.

This being my first multi-day hike , I was a bit apprehensive about everything! My gear, my capability, the terrain, my companions, quality of accommodation and food... I need not have worried. I normally hike and camp independently, so had to alter my expectations for a guided and curated tour. I was not disappointed - the tour with Park Trek was well-organised with fun and professional guides, tasty food which catered easily for a vego, beautiful accommodation at Cape Otway lighthouse and a walk which I was still able to complete at my own pace each day. The scenery was magnificent! Our guides shared their knowledge about our tour's features and places along the way, as well as hiking tips and their previous experiences. Definitely recommend to anyone considering this type of tour with Park Trek.

I set myself this challenge after a scare with cancer. My goals were to join a group of strangers (no comfort zone), Hike and look after myself amongst the beauty of TheGreat Ocean Road. This experience helped me to reconnect. I honestly can’t say enough how therapeutic it was for me. A BIG thankyou to the guides, Peters knowledge of surrounding flora was insightful and informative. Lorinda cooked the most amazing food and was always there if needed. Accomodation was excellent. Everything you need. A sincere thanks again for this great tour. 😊

This was our first ever guided walk of more than a day in an unfamiliar group. Despite the tracks being graded easy / moderate, at times walking was not exactly a "walk in the park". We perhaps weren't prepared for some of the slippery surfaces or having to be alert for quite a bit of the time. Despite this we managed really well and were well satisfied with completing it. Our guides were very personable, polite, kind, funny and worked very hard to respond to our needs. They were great cooks and time managers and responsible drivers. They humored us (being slightly older than them) and engaged us in interesting conversations. We had a lovely room. Facilities were clean, warm enough and very comfortable. No complaints. Food was amazing. Great recipes. Beautifully cooked. No complaints. Cost may be a bit of a barrier to regularly doing these kinds of activities. We probably would have benefited from a quick chat to someone before we went as one of us might have taken walking poles. A little bit more info on the natural wildlife would have been great. Breaking up some of the longer walking stretches might have helped make things a bit more interesting, although it does feel good to have achieved a decent amount of the track.
