Zvishavane

Travelers get to see the mining town of Zvishavane, and the beautiful scenic hills along the way from Bulawayo. The town developed as a residential centre for Shabani Mine, which started operations in 1916 to supply asbestos during the First World War. Growth was slow due to poor communications until the railway reached the town in 1928. Although the asbestos mine is the biggest producer of the mineral in Zvishavane, platinum, gold, beryl, chromite, iron ore at Buchwa and huge deposits of diamond at Murowa are also mined in the area. The surrounding area is dominated by cattle ranching, while peasant agriculture is practiced in the nearby communal lands of Mberengwa and Buchwa.

This was a brilliant trip and a brilliant itinerary. Bonisa Excursions organised all of the logistics very smoothly, and it all worked seamlessly, and felt professional and safe. We were in contact prior to the trip to organise the pick up time, and then hit the road to head to Great Zimbabwe. The UNESCO world heritage site certainly delivered and was amazing to see and hear more about the rich history and culture of the region, and Zimbabwe more generally. Then we headed to beautiful view points of Lake Kyle in the early evening before picking up some dinner and then heading to the accommodation. The accommodation was comfortable, and offered a hearty breakfast. And then on the second day we visited the Kyle Recreational Park, which was delightfully not-busy, and while the animals were initially slow to come out, by the end we'd seen lots with particular highlights being a group of White Rhinos plus a Rhino mother with her young! Obviously, you don't know what you're going to see on these, but the wild life was brilliant and it felt like there was enough there that you should see something of interest, but definitely beneficial to bring binoculars if you have them. We also found a fantastic look out which gave a beautiful view of the lake. It was really nice that Lesley was flexible with timing and didn't rush the experience when viewing all of the amazing wildlife. Overall, it was a great way to see a cross-section of the country, and combine both the history of the people of Zimbabwe, with the natural environment in just 2 days, without feeling too rushed. I'd definitely recommend the 2 day experience if you have the time, even if slightly more costly, so that you can get the full experience at a relaxed pace. Also, grateful to Lesley for his excellent guiding, and knowledgeable and insightful conversation! Thank you to Lesley and the team at Bonisa Excursions

We took the two day trip from Bulawayo to the Great Zimbabwe and it was worth every minute. Our journey started on time and we enjoyed the road trip. We had asked for some local snacks and found the one ones rhey had picked for us quite pleasant. I understand they are indehenous to Zimbabwe. Once we got there the guide that Bonisa Excursions assigned to us was very knowledgeable. The sunsets and accommodation was cosy, clean and warm. We are planning our next trip to Victoria Falls and will book with this company again. A big thank you to our driver Tinashe who was very accommodating.

  • A fascinating history

I had only a short time to stay in Zimbabwe, and one of the highest things on my to-do list was to visit the Great Zimbabwe. This tour turned out to be the perfect choice. Before arriving in Zimbabwe I was in contact with my guide, Leslie. He was very friendly and helpful as I prepared to arrive, even going so far as to give me an update on the forecast of cold weather for the days that I'd be there so that I would know to bring a jacket with me. My guide met me at the airport on arrival the day before the tour was scheduled to begin. The plan was to drop me off at a hotel that I had booked and to meet me first thing in the morning to start the tour. There was an issue with my reservation at the hotel (completely unrelated to the tour company), and my guide was very good about helping me find another place to stay for the night. I appreciated the help very much. The next day we drove from Harare to the Great Zimbabwe. It was a pleasant drive through the countryside. We arrived at Masvingo in the evening and checked into the accommodation arranged by the tour company. The place was very nice, near the stone monument and with a lovely view of Lake Kyle. The next morning was the tour of the Great Zimbabwe. The guide was interesting and informative, and I enjoyed learning so much about the history of the stone structures and the people who built them. I would recommend this tour to anyone that is planning a visit to Zimbabwe., and Bonisa Excursions would definitely be the company to go with.
