Walking down a trail paved with nutmeg shells one can explore and learn many variety of herbs and spices. Many of these herbs and spices are exported by Grenada making it truly the spice island of the Caribbean. Even if you do not know their names as you traverse the grounds the scent of these spices will captivate your senses. There you identify many herbs and spices in its natural and processed form. Laura's Herb and Spices welcome locals and visitors. Also, you will learn the botanical names of many herbs and spices; and even get the opportunity to pick and taste a few local fruits. A gift shop is available on site.
Fort Frederick
Fort Frederick stands tall in the hills of Richmond Hill, St. George; and offers a world class view of the town's harbor and surrounding areas. This site symbolizes history and the changes in power that some of the Caribbean islands experienced. It was built by the French after capturing the island from the British in 1779. The landscape and view gives one a revived appreciation for life. Fort Frederick is nicknamed the 'backward facing fort' because its cannon are facing inland rather than the sea.

We booked the Grenada Herb & Spice Tour with Explorer Grenada Tours through TripAdvisor for November 13, 2025, and it was an excellent way to experience the island. Pickup instructions were very clear inside the Terminal Building, and arriving 10–15 minutes early allowed everyone to board smoothly and start the tour right on time. We received a warm welcome from Stephanie before being introduced to our guide, Troy. Troy was a fantastic guide—knowledgeable, friendly, and very accommodating with our multi-generational family, including a 3-year-old and seniors with mobility limitations. He shared a great overview of Grenada’s history during the drive and made every stop easy and enjoyable. Our first stop was Laura’s Herb & Spice Garden, which is a must-see. The tour was interactive and fun as we tasted cacao pulp and sampled various herbs. The path was easy to navigate, even for my in-laws. We then visited Fort Frederick, which offered stunning views of the Caribbean Sea. The lower area is accessible, but the upper section is not ideal for those with mobility concerns. Next, we stopped at Tri-Island Chocolate, where the staff gave a clear explanation of the chocolate-making process, followed by delicious samples. We also purchased chocolate and a chocolate porter beer from their tasting room. Our final main stop was the beautiful Annandale Waterfalls, accessible by a paved path. The walk down is steep, so Troy kept the van running with the AC on for my mother-in-law and my napping son. Down by the pool, the atmosphere was relaxed and not busy, which made the stop even more enjoyable. I was able to grab a beer and watch a local diver leap from the cliff into the pool below — an impressive and memorable moment. On our way back, Troy made a special stop for us to try Cocoa Tea at his favorite shop. It was delicious—one of the best treats of the day. We returned to the ship with plenty of time before the 5:30pm all-aboard time. Overall, this tour was well organized, relaxed, and enjoyable for all ages. I highly recommend Explorer Grenada Tours and especially Troy for cruise passengers, families, and visitors wanting a comfortable and informative introduction to Grenada.

Our guide Mikey was fantastic! He was attentive and customized the tour to our interests. It ended at the appropriate time so no concerns about getting back to the ship on time. The best parts were Laura’s Garden and Fort Fredrick. Highly, highly recommend!

Excellent trip. Our guide was knowledgeable and great company. Herb and Spice garden definitely worth a visit. Fascinating to hear about all the different things that are grown and smell and taste some of the plants and fruit. Beautiful panoramic view from the top of Fort Frederick. Enjoyed listening to the talk from the guy at the chocolate factory and sampling the chocolate. Even bought a couple of bars to take home. Throughly enjoyed ourselves and pleased we booked it. Well worth it.

This excursion lasts about 4 hours. I did it with my 86 year old mother and she was able to keep up. Densil was a gentlemen and made sure she got in and out the van safely. We were lucky to be the only ones on the tour which led to a personalized experience. The herb garden tour was amazing. I forget the name of the tour leader but she was excellent. She allowed us to sample some of the herbs and gave us an overview of their medicinal properties. I could have stayed there all day. It’s so lush and peaceful. The fort and waterfall were also great. Shout out to the Spice Man Akhir at the Fort. He has a variety of reasonably priced trinkets for sale.

We got to see a lot of the local area and I highly recommend this tour

The tour included a rum distillery, a chocolate manufacturer, Frederick Fort, Great Etang Lake, a waterfall and a spice centre. All done in air conditioned comfort with Ashton our guide and driver. To be recommended as an introduction to Grenada.
