Guangzhou is a bustling city with an old area preserving traditional Cantonese culture, this 3.5-hour walking tour will let you explore the old Xiguan area on foot to indulge into local life with our local guide, and learn the background and history from your local guide. You will view the Lychee Bay, Xiguan old house, Liwanhu Park, Yong Qing Fang, Shangxiajiu Pedestrian Street, and Shamian Island where the trip concludes. Moreover, you will taste a local snack at a local restaurant. Meet outside, Exit A, Zhongshanba Station on Metro Line 5. Centrally located Guangzhou hotel (Liwan, Yuexiu, Tianhe, Haizhu districts are central area)pickup is an optional choice(drop off is not included). There are two departures 9am and 2pm in a day.

What To Expect

Yong Qing Fang

At 9am or 2pm, meet your guide outside Exit A, Zhongshanba Station, Metro Line 5 with your nameplate. Then you will start your walking tour with your guide to Renwen Temple which is a typical Taoism temple. Afterwards you visit Liwanhu Park where local people dance, sing and play games. Lychee Bay is a place for the well-preserved old Xiguan houses that used to be the home for rich people. Walking along the Duobao Road and En'ning Road, you will be amazed by the local life, the busy market, the old shops, and the snack street etc.that are a mirror to reflect the traditional Cantonese lifestyle. Moreover, you will taste a local snack at a local restaurant. You will also visit the popular Yong Qing Fang, and Canton Opera Museum(close on Mondays) with your guide. Then you will head to Shangxiajiu Pedestrian Street before moving to Shamian Island, a nice place with old houses by the Pearl River. When the tour concludes, your guide will help you get a taxi or metro back to your hotel.

Had a great 3 hours walking tour with our guide Stoney who brought us to see different places such as 荔枝湾 (Lychee Bay), 永庆坊 (Yongqingfang) and 沙面岛 (Shamiandao island) while sharing the history and interesting facts of each place which was truly insightful experience for us as we had a more in depth understanding of Guangzhou now. This is our first visit to Guangzhou and I’m glad that we had a tour guide to bring us around and sharing with us some stories which will enrich our memories and experience of the places we have visited together. Thank you to Stoney for treating us to the desserts and being ever so patient with us when we have so many questions to ask about each place we visited.

The experience was great, it allowed me to explore the beauty of Guangzhou on a solo layover of just a few hours. Mango speaks really great English and was very friendly and kind. She showed me a taste of authentic local life which is rare to find in organised tours. She also allowed me to use her hotspot and waited with me until my didi pickup arrived.

Despite the rain, Mango made it a memorable experience. She is very professional, patient, and knowledgeable; she had answers to all my questions. I told her I was looking for something specific to buy for myself and she adapted the tour so we can visit some stores and find what I was looking for. The local treat also allows you to take a short break of the walking. I was initially focusing on the attractions close to my hotel in Yuexiu, but this tour is a must and I highly recommend it as an introduction to the city. The information provided by Mango is extremely useful when visiting other attractions in Guangzhou.

My walking tour with guide Mango was fabulous. Her knowledge of the city and the old town was vast and she was great company as we walked around the local sights of this beautiful part of Guangzhou. Perfectly planned itinerary for the half day including a delicious morning snack stop! Highly recommend this tour.
