You'll venture far to the outer islands of the archipelago and get close to the amazing birdlife in this unusual habitat, and you may spot Grey seals.
This is a team effort through and through! Strangers at first, then quickly a well-oiled crew of explorers who are in it together! You’ll cook delicious meals as a team, decide on the route as a team and learn fun skills from your guides and from each other.

All the provided gear, food and water are waiting for us at the launch. We'll repack our clothes into dry bags and load the kayaks. Using our top-of-the-line equipment is a real treat! It can be hard to justify purchasing gear of that caliber on your own! Our launch site is situated in a sheltered bay – soon we round the first islands and see a maze of islands spreading out in all directions.
During our paddle northeast towards Aspöja we’ll pass through many clusters of forested islands and islets. A variety of different ducks, as well as swans and Grey herons breed around here, and White-tailed eagles are sighted regularly since they nest in large trees nearby. We continue paddling through the Uggelholmarna Nature Reserve, a great spot for a break. Three hundred year-old pine and linden trees grow here, and the open forest is perfect for a short stroll. We aim east towards the narrow inlet between Lammskär and Kalvskär - we'll end up surrounded by a beautiful and sheltered atoll formation of islands. A short distance north we reach the cluster of islets south of Aspöja - one of the most gorgeous settings of the archipelago with spectacular sunset views.

Our following day is a fantastic paddle southeast through the outer archipelago and its barren, wind-pined little islets. The blue horizon and the open sea is our backdrop. If we're lucky we may spot seals and there is an amazing variety of coastal birds out here – large colonies of gulls and Arctic terns, Black guillemots, Mergansers, Velvet scoters, Eiders, Shelducks, Oystercatchers and Redshanks. Large birds like White-tailed eagles and Great cormorants are common, and maybe we spot Arctic skuas and Ospreys. After a quite strenuous day we reach the famous navigation mark Kupa Klint. It’s a lookout with spectacular views of the hundreds of skerries of the Missjö Archipelago spreading out below – the most finely-chiselled archipelago that exists in Sweden. Inside the outer band of skerries we reach the large island Missjö with its parallel islands. Our guides know all the nooks and crannies and will find a superb sheltered spot for the night.

Unknown Location
We steer our kayaks south towards the most visited island in the area – Harstena. An idyllic view of the village greets us as we paddle the narrow inlet. Harstena is famous far and wide for its picturesque and historic beauty. We learn more about the history at the museum in the old school, stroll around the village and munch on delicious cinnamon swirls from the bakery After a visit to this village seemingly frozen in time, we head southeast aiming for the magical Ytterö island with its smooth rocky beaches and gnarly old pine trees. It’s right on the open sea and we find higher ground for a spectacular view of the archipelago and the horizon. When we fall asleep tonight all we can hear are the waves crashing against the smooth rocks and calls from the many birds that breed on the little islets surrounding the island.

Weather conditions permitting, we’ll try to make it to Häradskär today. The old lighthouse on the island is the last outpost of the archipelago right on the open sea. Few make it to this historic spot at the edge of the world! We’ll pass Gubbö on the way, and climb the hill for an amazing view of this part of the archipelago. We paddle south through the beautiful clusters of islands at Laxvarp and make an assessment whether we can reach our goal. After an exposed crossing, the red iron lighthouse finally appears. The only sounds out here are bird calls and the rhythmic crashing of the sea against the flat rocks. We're as far out as we're going to get and it's absolutely beautiful!

Breakfast
We set up camp site south of Fångö island last night, and it's our very last morning we in our island wonderland. After a hearty breakfast and a final dip in the sea, we're homeward bound. We visit the abandoned copper mine on Fångö on our way back, then round the island and paddle through a small canal that takes us opposite Fyrudden. A short paddle west takes us to the mainland and the finish point. Far from strangers anymore, we're a crew of seasoned explorers who’ve just been through an unforgettable kayaking expedition together!

This trip exceeded my (high) expectations. The camping was so comfortable as the gear was so good. The food was outstanding - different breakfasts every day - fabulous! Bibi and Kata were great guides - organised, patient, friendly and made the trip great fun. The kayaking was great - challenging but never more than we could achieve so everyone felt a great sense of achievement. The islands were each different and we enjoyed finding camping and swimming spots. Overall this trip was fantastic and we may well be back!

This was an excellent trip in every respect. There was good communication with the office before it began. Questions were answered promptly and we were given a helpful kit list. Our guides, Katha and Bibi, were outstanding and played a key role in making the trip so successful. They were knowledgeable about the islands, the wildlife and the flora. They had great personalities and helped the group bond. They were supportive and fun throughout. They couldn’t do enough to help. Of course the islands and the water was beautiful. The camp spots were comfortable. The camping equipment was top of the range. We were snug and warm at night. The food was plentiful and a major event at every mealtime. The kayaks were lovely to paddle. All in all, it was a simply excellent trip which I am happy to recommend. Frank Farrell

Amazing trip! The scenery was absolutely stunning, and we had mostly great weather throughout. There were a couple of windy, rainy days, but our guides Manu and Ryan went above and beyond to keep us safe and comfortable, even sorting out extra gear when needed. The gear was excellent and made camping really comfortable. They also cooked delicious meals and made sure everyone felt welcome. Great guides, great group-highly recommend!

I had a fantastic kayaking trip with On the North! The scenery was beautiful, the kayak and equipment were excellent, and the cooking was delicious. The sauna on a rainy day was such a thoughtful touch. Ryan was super helpful, and MaLu was an outstanding leader—he even gave me an extra rowing session with great kayaking tips. Both had a great sense of humor, which made the trip even more enjoyable. The whole team was welcoming and professional, and the group spirit was wonderful. A truly memorable and well-run adventure!

I didn’t know exactly what I expected, but it definitely exceeded my expectations. The equipment was top of the line and went far beyond the basics, providing a very comfortable experience. Everything was new, clean, and well maintained. Our guides were Ryan and Kata, both extremely professional, always in a great mood, and constantly going the extra mile—teaching us how to navigate, sharing camping tips, and more. They had a great dynamic together, and I felt safe and protected the entire time. They clearly know what they’re doing and excel at it. The cherry on top was Kata’s cooking… OMG! We were so lucky to have her in our group. I certainly wasn’t expecting such glamorous, elaborate, and delicious meals while camping. You’d normally think of canned food and bread, right? Wrong! We had fish stew, curry, French toast, chorizo, salmon, shrimp, halloumi—it was absolutely unforgettable.

This was wonderful! From the moment of booking the communication was excellent. Everything was brilliantly organised with all details well thought out. And our guides. Katha and Ryan, were exceptional.... happy, positive, enthusiastic and considerate of everyone's needs. The scenery was beautiful, and it was such fun discovering new camping places for each night. The kayaking was exhilarating at times and serene at others (gentle sunset paddle!). The kit was all first class. The food was a joy and you'll find yourself wanting to try the recipes at home. An all round great adventure. Thanks Do the North team, you're doing everything right!!

Take me back! Could not recommend this experience more. 5 days of paddling from island to island, figuring out with the group each day where we'd head to next, setting up camp, and swimming in the sea. Ryan and Katha were excellent guides, ensuring everyone was having a good time, learning how to steer the kayak, read the map (though that will never be my forte) and whipping up excellent nourishing meals each day. You definitely get your money's worth with knowledgeable guides and excellent kayaking and camping materials, that I feel like most would struggle to pull together solo!

Outr guides Catha and Ryan were the best, knowledgeable, fun and nothing was too much trouble. If you like peace nature kayaking and wild swimming it’s the trip for you! Do it!

Where to start! I booked to go on my own but felt part of a group from the second I booked it. Helena was excellent prior to the trip with organisation and coms. Once there Carry and Manu took over and quickly got us out on the water, so much love for these two incredible humans. I cannot put into words how great this holiday was. I have experienced things I will never forget and am already planning more adventures with friends made on the trip. Ps the food was incredible and my peanut allergy was really well catered for 🫶🏼
