An amazing experience visiting the Danube Delta on a one-day private birdwatching trip. We left Tulcea before dawn on open-topped boat (see picture) until mid-afternoon when birds were less active. We were lucky to get perfect weather, and seeing the sunrise over the Delta was an unforgettable experience. Our guide (and I think co-owner of the business) Ili was incredibly knowledgeable and alert, pointing out new birds all the time as they were seen or heard and taking us to the best spots for species that we had indicated in advance we were keen to see. Ili also was knowledgeable about the history of the Delta and the pressures it is facing from human activity. At times the sheer number and variety of birds was overwhelming, especially in the 2-3 hours just after dawn when passerines were singing everywhere. Ili was also very patient - I am a birdwatcher that is very good with the ears but a bit slower with the eyes and at times I can miss something that is right in front of me! Although I had a small camera with me, our trip was primarily about soaking in the experience of hearing and seeing the wildlife in such a unique environment. If you are primarily a photographer then you need to let the company know in advance and they may take you different spots in the Delta to facilitate that. On this trip you have the option of buying lunch at a local traditional restaurant in the Mila 23 village, and this is the same place that the longer trips use as their base. It is a peaceful, pleasant spot and some people may welcome an hour without the hum of the boat's engine. Communication in advance of the trip with the operator was excellent, Calina was the person who handled this and she was very prompt at getting back by e-mail when we had a query (always a reply within 24 hours). Especially as we had to change the date of our trip a few weeks before we travelled. One important thing to note if doing this trip is that the boat departs from the small pier at "Port Tulcea Aval", and not from the promenade at Tulcea. If you are staying in the main hotels by the promenade this is about a 15 minute walk. Alternatively you can drive to it, and it is 40 lei per day to leave your car there. As we arrived the day beforehand, we checked out the departure point that day so that we did not have to worry about it on the day. From a birdwatching standpoint, other aspects of our travel plans limited the dates we could have taken this trip. If you have a completely free hand as to when to visit, I would suggest two to three weeks earlier than we visited would be even better e.g. mid April to end of first week in May. Overall a fantastic, unforgettable experience.

I traveled to Danube Delta in July 2025 with great expectations and my expectations were rewarded to 100%.As soon as we left Tulcea pier and entered the small channels of Delta, a magical world was revealed in front of us. Our guide Iliuță, a skilled photographer, boat driver, ornithologists and you name it with more than 20 years experience in Delta, helped us find beautiful birds, landscapes, making everything look so easy! If you are a photographer and not only, if you like nature or birds, you must experience the Danube Delta at least once in your life!

We had the private tour through the Danube Delta to Sulina. The tour was wonderful. We saw a lot of birds and water animals. The boats are very comfortable and good for exploring the small canals. Our guide Ili is very ambitious and knowledgeable. He knows a lot about the Danube Delta and its animals. We had a grwat day and will certainly book another tour at this agency.

An unforgettable three-day expedition! Our guide introduced us to small unrun canals in the delta and introduced us to many birds, from the smallest to the largest. He gave us a lot of details about their manners, their habitat, the amount of individuals in the delta... The accommodation was also up to standard with an excellent host cook who introduced us to local cuisine. In short, nothing wrong!

We highly recommend this company to visit the Delta. The contact person, Calina, was very nice and responsive to all our questions and requests. Our guide was Bogdan. He is not only a good navigator, a nice, vastly knowledgeable and accommodating fellow, he also has an incredible eyesight. He was able to spot (and name!) birds and their nests way ahead of time so that we were prepared to watch them and take photos. His English is near perfect and it was a pleasure to share meals with him at the various stops (Mila23 and Letea). In addition, he is an enthusiastic lover of nature preservation and knows all the ins and outs on the subject.

We went on a full day trip with guide Marius and boat driver Paul. Started 5:30 am, back by 15:00. It was above and beyond my expectations, and the knowledge of Marius, from the ID challenges of Caspian Gulls versus Yellow-legged, to finding Syrian Woodpecker (a photo species need I had).

Booked a private birdwatching tour for a solo traveller for 6days & it was a marvellous tour that exceeded the expectations in many ways The guide/owner Iliuta is a very knowledgable & passionate photographer who knew the delta, its birds & the history - so took some amazing bird shots, mainly the pelicans. Even while steering the boat safely, the guide Ionut was able to spot the birds quite from some distance which was helpful too. Mila23 village experience & the wild horses photography in Letea were unexpected & wonderful. Due to the booking done by me at very short notice, the accommodation though quite safe & comfortable was not exceptional compared to the other parts of the trip, it was manageable. All in all, was a marvellous experience & would recommend for bird enthusiasts (even for solo female travellers) & anyone who is interested in nature trips & relaxation.

Excellent Tour if you are an admirer of Wildlife and Nature. We were guided excellently through the Danube Delta paradise. Great sunrise and sunsets, many many birds and intersting plants to discover. We also saw wild horses. And last but not least did we get an idea about the traditional life.... and we enjoyed fantastic fish dishes!

Highly recommend it. The guide is extremely knowledgeable on birds, plants and fish. He's very easy to talk to, and goes out of his way to ensure you have the best experience possible. He's also a photographer and therefore understands how to position the boat for the best lighting and composition (if these are possible to manipulate under the circumstances). Lunch and cocktails were also all devine. No complaints whatsoever
