Embark on a unique journey from Naddi to Dharamkot, a blend of natural beauty, cultural significance, and spiritual tranquility. This 3-hour walk offers stunning views of the majestic Dhauladhar range, especially during clear February and March skies. Wander through Naddi village, where traditional and modern homes provide a glimpse into local Himalayan life.

The trail takes you through lush forests adorned with vibrant Tibetan prayer flags, creating a serene atmosphere. Along the way, visit a sacred stupa marking the cremation site of a monk who accompanied the Dalai Lama on his escape from Tibet—a powerful connection to Tibetan history.

Encounter a charming settlement of mud-brick houses, shared by monks and playful monkeys. The trek concludes in the peaceful hamlet of Dharamkot, where a local tea shop offers the perfect place to unwind. For the adventurous, extend your walk to McLeod Ganj and explore further.

What To Expect

You'll be driven to the edge of Naddi village, where your leisurely walk begins. Smooth paths wind through the village, offering glimpses of both traditional and modern homes inhabited by the local community. On clear days, the majestic Dhauladhar range serves as a breathtaking backdrop, with its snowy peaks most visible in February and March. The walk ascends to a maximum height of approximately 2000 meters before transitioning to an uneven trail that meanders through a shaded forest. Along the way, vibrant Tibetan prayer flags flutter among the trees, creating a serene atmosphere. You'll arrive at a small settlement of mud-brick houses, home to both monks and monkeys. Nearby stands a stupa, marking the cremation site of the monk who accompanied the current Dalai Lama during his escape from Tibet. As you leave the forest, you'll enjoy sweeping views back toward McLeod Ganj before ending in Dharamkot, about 3hrs after starting your walk. A local tea shop here offers a refreshing break. For those wanting to extend their walk, you can continue walking towards Mcleodganj.

Fabulous day. Enjoyed the views of the high mountains from the village of Naddi - blown away by the vista. The highlight for me was walking through the village, seeing the old-style houses in particular, the tiny farmyards with the goats, cows and calves, locales going about their business. We visited a family and sat in their traditional kitchen, drinking tea and a local dish of spicy vegetable and chutney. Also enjoyed the walk up to the point with hundreds of prayer flags and little rock cairns. My guide was a local who really loves the area and cares about it deeply.
