The 1961 monument, in the center of the square, is logically supposed to be an allegory which symbolizes the independence of the country acquired on April 27, 1960 This flame represents the independence acquired by the country and the light which must enlighten the Togolese people in their march towards the future.

After initial problems meeting Tao from our cruise ship we had the most amazing, authentic tour. We visited the Voodoo Fetish market, enjoyed an incredible local music and dance demonstration, Koumys art 'studio,' the independence monument, viewed the Ghanaian border post, went to the beach and a beachside cafe, the cathedral and market. Tao had a welcoming manner and good English, he was informative and could explain details of the places we visited and answer questions. (The festish market had a dedicated guide.) The transport was air conditioned and Tao supplied bottled water. We really enjoyed our tour and would recommend it to anyone.

Friendly guide with a lot of flexibility, a great attitude, and a lot of experience. It can be on the longer or shorter end of the time range, and he will acccomodate.

Good overview of Lomé with personalized tour that lasted 5 hours. Passionate and very interesting guide. Too bad the National Museum wasn't open. The highlight of the visit was the house of the artist Jean Koumy, with the presence of the artist. Note that the water and snacks advertised in the description have fallen by the wayside.

The best way to spend a day in Lome - and our time was limited being on a cruise ship! We were met at the port and communication prior to the excursion was fantastic. Our tour was deep and wide into the city visiting west Africa’s largest Vodun market - pls keep an open mind and be respectful of cultural differences - the home and gallery of the famous Togolese artist Loumy (one of the highlights 💛) as well as the local markets and some beach time. The tour and guides were professional, friendly and respectful of our time and some of the groups limitations. Highly recommend for a day Lome - tyvm 😀🙌🏻

Great tour organised by Bouba! He communicated really well prior to the tour and was able to adapt the tour to my time constraints and arranged easy pick-up and drop-off. The tour was really interesting and Bouba was good at answering any questions.

Tau (the tour guide) has advanced English and is very knowledgeable of the city and it’s history. We visited the Palace and museum, saw an art collection, viewed the public beach and then finished up with a beach club and the notorious Fetish market.
