Lake Ashinoko
Lake Ashinoko (芦ノ湖, Ashinoko) was formed in the caldera of Mount Hakone after the volcano's last eruption 3000 years ago. Today, the lake with Mount Fuji in the background is the symbol of Hakone. The lake's shores are mostly undeveloped except for small towns in the east and north and a couple of lakeside resort hotels. The best views of the lake in combination with Mount Fuji can be enjoyed from Moto-Hakone (a few steps south from the sightseeing boat pier), from the Hakone Detached Palace Garden and from the sightseeing boats cruising the lake.
Hakone Shrine
Hakone-jinja Shrine is a tranquil place of worship with a history stretching back more than 12 centuries. Its buildings have been destroyed by fire and rebuilt several times, yet the shrine and surrounding forest retain an atmosphere of both peace and mystery.

My family and I had the most amazing experience with Hide at our Hakone 8 hour private tour. The adventure began by taking the cable carts at Gora leading us to the gondola to see the beautiful greenery of Hakone mountains and then the contrast of the volcanic side. Prior to our departure at the gondola, my two daughters were able to send off postcards from one of the gift shops. Once we arrived at the volcanic side, Hide took us to taste the Hakone black eggs which supposedly give a person seven more years of life. We enjoyed this very much! After learning the chemistry of these volcanic eggs, we then headed towards Lake Aishi on the pirate boat. It was a beautiful day where we got to go up on the deck to see the scenic views of the lake and green backdrop. What we appreciated most with Hide is his attention for detail. He was very accommodating and flexible if we wanted to stop, slow the pace, and most importantly helped my mother in law get a table at a coffee shop while the rest of my family went on a small walk up to the temple. Additionally, he took us to the most delicious restaurant that served such good food and even experienced grating fresh wasabi. We ended the tour by tasting the best matcha shaved ice at the 400 year old tea house. The final tour ended with a peaceful cable cart train ride up while viewing the beautiful greenery of Hakone mountains. It felt as if we were part of nature. Heidi was so polite, friendly, and hospitable. A memory that will last forever. Thank you Hide!
