I joined with my aunt, who is in her 70s. My guide Noom explained it to me in a friendly and easy-to-understand manner without being nasty to me, who is not good at English. Also, the driver, Boo, was a very pleasant person and cared about things. I couldn't remember everything about the plants and trees that were unfamiliar to me in Japan, but I learned a part of Thai culture. At the temple, I listened with interest to Thai Buddhism, which is similar but different from Japanese Buddhism. The weather up until the day before meant that the trek down was supposed to be an up trek, which was physically a bit difficult for my aunt, but she returned home feeling desperately confident in her physical strength.

Nui is a great guide. Very enthusiastic and good company. The trip was a good mix of temple and walking with some views and a journey through the streets of Chiang Mai.

We had a lovely morning exploring these temples. Our guide, Noom, was really knowledgeable, and considerate of our pace as we hiked the trail. The lower shrine was tranquil and simple, a lovely place to sit and be. The upper shrine was busy and more commercial, but nonetheless fascinating for its place in the Thai story and identity. The views were gorgeous.
