While I teach you the basic steps to drink a mate, our national drink, I will show you the most emblematic places in Montevideo.
I will tell you the official story, and the not so official story about the creation of our country, always based on real events, so that on this tour you have the greatest possible knowledge of our history and idiosyncrasies.
Don't worry about the schedule, I will adapt to whatever is necessary so that you can fully enjoy your visit to Montevideo.
I will tell you, in many details, about the passions of Uruguayans, especially when it comes to football, food and politics.
I will do everything possible so that you finish the tour very happy and with a clear idea of what Uruguay is like and what Uruguayans are like.

What To Expect
Plaza Independencia
The Independence Square stands as the focal and paramount square in Montevideo, Uruguay. Situated at the heart of the city, it occupies the historic space that once served as the entrance to the fortified old city of Montevideo. At its core, the square proudly hosts the monument honoring General José Gervasio Artigas, a key figure in the struggle for independence. Surrounding this iconic monument, one finds the edifice housing the Presidency of the Republic, serving as the workplace for the President of Uruguay. The Plaza Independencia, thus, serves as a symbolic and historical center, embodying the essence of Montevideo's past and present.
Plaza Matriz
The Constitution Square, also known as Plaza Matriz, graces the historic center of Montevideo's old city. Once the central square of the fortress city of San Felipe and Santiago de Montevideo, it witnessed the pivotal moment when Uruguay declared its independence as a nation. Nestled within this square is the Metropolitan Cathedral, adding to its significance. Today, the Plaza de la Constitución stands as a vibrant hub, attracting a constant flow of tourists and hosting various cultural spaces. It remains a key focal point in the city of Montevideo, embodying both historical importance and contemporary cultural vitality.

Great oversight of a beautiful City

5.00We had a great time with Dario! He was on time waiting for us when we disembarked the ship and his car was nearby. He offered to fetch the car, but we were happy to walk. Unfortunately the air con was broken, but he had plenty of cold water and with the windows open it was fine. We walked through all 3 squares and he told us about the history of Uruguay and the important buildings/statues. He knew all the best places to take photos from to get the best shots! We even got to see a wedding!! We drove to the football stadium where the first World Cup was held and then the Congress and on to the beach. We stopped at a little park where there is an art exhibition every month and finally went into the covered market opposite the port to see the barbecues, local dancers and drummers and to taste a local drink. It was a very interesting, packed trip and we thoroughly enjoyed Dariio's company. Thank you 😊

5.00Dario was incredible. My wife and I are fortunate to have taken day tours with Viator and/or the other big company in 15 cities across 12 countries, and Dario was the best. Friendly, knowledgeable, funny, and an all around expert on the true history of Montevideo. He picked us up on time, paid extra care to my 2 year old and wife because it was 95 degrees, so he brought lots of water bottles on ice. He knew so much history, both told, and untold, and extended the tour without asking. Dario knew how to navigate the city, frequently ran into people around town that he knew, further solidifying that he is an expert in his field, and he gave us a BOOK about Uruguay, for free. That was incredible. No tour guides do that. Montevideo is a great city, underrated in my opinion, and we would not have experienced the true city without him. We loved every minute, and it was 95 degrees! That says a lot about Dario and his ability to make a tour wonderful. I would highly recommend using Dario, whether with just friends, family, or even when traveling with a 2 year old all the way from California, like we were. I happened to lose my phone at the hotel hours after the tour, and I asked him to resend me photos via Whats App because I lost them all. Dario offered to drive to the hotel and look for the phone. A truly kind man, with great knowledge, of a city that deserves a visit from any traveler who values history, and wants to see the cooler parts of South America. Thanks so much Dario, we truly appreciated your time, attention, and care to your craft. You are a master.

5.00He is an exceptional guide, friendly, friendly, always well disposed, has incredible knowledge of the traditional places to visit, and also takes you to restaurants, bars, museums and fantastic places, which make you feel like a local. He is very generous with his time, as he has no problems in extending the tour and staying several hours after the scheduled end of the tour, and everything he does with a smile, it is really like you arrive in Montevideo and you are greeted by an old friend. Super recommended!!!

5.00We were 4 friends doing a Trip to Uruguay last March, and thanks to Dario we enjoy our stay in the country for 7 days... I would like to recommend Dario, he is an excellent guide, friendly and very knowledgeable of the area. He also knows the history of Uruguay and shows a lot of passion for it. We visit places to know the culture and traditions of the uruguayans. I'm plannig to come back soon with more friends....
