The hike that Yien and Phong took us on was amazing! It was a circular loop and we got to see so much and were able to learn so much from both of them. The views were just incredible in spite of it being out of season with the yellow rice fields. We then had dinner with Yien, his wife and Phong which was a lovely way to finish the tour. It was lovely to enjoy homemade, local food. It’s definitely more of a hike than walk but would highly recommended to anyone visiting Mu Cang Chai.

We slept at Yien's family Homestay, he picked us up in the morning for the half-day trek. It was just great, we learned a lot about the Hmong and the rice fields were sublime! Yien, his wife and friend were super nice and we laughed it was great!!!! Thank you I want to come back!

We had the best day ever with Yien. We asked him to take us on a less touristy route and we ended up hiking through miles of rice terraces, up a mountain, and on local farming fields. He even climbed trees to get us guava to try, and had great stories to tell. Afterwards, him and his family cooked us an incredible dinner of duck, tofu, greens, and persimmon - all from their garden or local suppliers. It was an amazing experience and I hope everyone visiting Mu Cang Chai will spend a day hanging out with some Hmong people, they’re amazing.

It was an authentic experience in all respects. In addition to hiking we also stayed two nights at Indigenous Homestay, I think we will never forget it. Sensational trekking, beautiful scenery, nothing to say, but it leaves just as breathless the kindness, helpfulness and smile of the hosts.

We had an unforgettable trekking experience in Mù Cang Chải that I would highly recommend to anyone visiting Northern Vietnam. Trekking through the breathtaking rice terraces with a Hmong guide was both physically rewarding and culturally rich. Not only did we witness the region’s natural beauty—layers of golden fields and mountain light—but we felt immersed in the reality and resilience of the local Hmong community, whose daily life and traditions we came to appreciate along the way. The warmth and hospitality from our Hmong hosts were truly special.

Fantastic experience in the rice fields of Mu Cang Chai. The organization was impeccable, with pickup and return tour directly to the hotel. Landscapes not very tirish and authentic, trekking among the most famous rice fields of Vietnam with routes between the villages of the local populations. Yien the guide was impeccable: perfect English, allowed us to explore the authenticity of the places and prepared us a great lunch with typical Vietnamese meals to eat directly in the rice fields! Experience highly recommended!

The accommodation and also the tours were incredibly great. In the morning we did a trek to the rice fields. Our guide, the son of the family, Yien and his wife as well as two dogs accompanied us and told us a lot about the culture and the landscape. It was very exciting and a unique experience. In the afternoon we were able to bake the traditional cake Pato. That too can only be recommended. It was a wonderful day and we can recommend it to anyone who wants to get to know the country away from the big tourist crowds.

I warmly recommend a hike with Yien/Mu Cang Chai Adventures. He is friendly, easy to talk with. Along the way, he learned us a lot about Hmong culture and surrounding nature. He adjusted the hike to what we wanted to do and this was followed by a very nice lunch with his wife who is also very friendly and excellent cook!

We did the tour with the buffalo – such a new and memorable experience! It was a really fun and original way to explore the beautiful rice fields. Our guide spoke excellent English and shared so much interesting information about the local culture and landscape. We also had breakfast and lunch with his family, who were incredibly kind and welcoming. This tour is a must if you're looking for something authentic in Mu Cang Chai!
