The first place is Ho Chi Minh mausoleum (open only in morning time 8:00 AM - 11:30 AM and close on Monday & Friday weekly). It is the final resting place of Ho Chi Minh, the most iconic and popular leader of Vietnam, known to his people as ‘Uncle Ho’. His body is preserved here in a glass case at the mausoleum (albeit against his wishes). Started in 1973, the construction of the mausoleum was modeled on Lenin's mausoleum in Russia and was first open to the public in 1975. Security is tight and visitors should dress with respect (no shorts, sleeveless shirts and miniskirts) and everyone has to deposit their bags and cameras before getting in. PLEASE NOTE that the mausoleum is closed from June 10 to August 12 yearly for maintenance.
One Pillar Pagoda
Legend claims that The One Pillar Pagoda was built following a dream by the fatherless emperor in which the enlightened being Avalokiteshvara gave him a baby son resting on a lotus flower. Emperor Ly Thai Tong commissioned the pagoda to be created in resemblance of this lotus flower which is also the Buddhist symbol of enlightenment. The Emperor remained in gratitude to the bodhisattva and subsequently to to Quan Am, the Goddess of Mercy following the birth of his son. Inside the temple a richly gilded statue of Quan Am takes centre place at the main altar. Today, the concrete pillar that supports the tiny wooden pagoda is a replacement for the original one which was blown up by the departing French, it remains unclear how much of the wooden temple is the original one. Another point of interest is a bo tree that grows behind the pagoda which legend state is an offshoot of the one under which Buddha became enlightened - the tree was given as a gift from India in 1958.

This tour is perfect for first timers to Hanoi and helps you get aquainted with the city. Guide and driver were exceptional. Lan, our guide, was very good at telling us about each place and was super friendly. She went out of her way to assist us throughout the tour.

The guide was friendly and seemed knowledgeable about Vietnam’s history, though he appeared quite young and somewhat inexperienced. Unfortunately, we missed 3 of the 7 places listed in the itinerary. We also just missed a train we were trying to catch and had to wait about 40 minutes for the next one, which cost us some time. There was also some confusion about the egg coffee/tea that was supposed to be included in the package. Initially, the guide asked us to pay for it, but after we asked him to double-check with his team, he confirmed that the drinks would be covered. During this process, we were taken up and down the busy train street several times with our elderly parents while trying to find a cheaper café. In the end, they did cover the drinks at a slightly more expensive café, which we appreciated. Overall, the experience was pleasant, but the itinerary felt a bit rushed. Trying to fit so many stops into a half-day tour made it difficult to see everything comfortably; it would likely work better as a full-day tour.

Nice guide, but left out a lot what we noticed only afterwards. Sure, it was only a morning, but dropped us off at the hotel after less than 3h

Had a good tour with Linh, he was very helpful and knowledgeable about the locations, it's a shame train street has no trains ! Not the operators fault, it's the same for everyone, I would recommend, hopefully someone else would get better weather, Hanoi in the cold and rain is not pleasant.

Well paced tour and our guide - Linh was excellent. Glad we took this tour. Although we had seen videos of the train through the market it was great to experience it firsthand.

We were very lucky to have Lan as our guide in Hanoi. She is very knowledgeable and passionate about sharing her knowledge with others. We need to admit that are not the 'easiest' travellers as we have a lot of questions about the history, language, culture and Lan knew the answers to all of them. We had a great introduction to Vietnam's culture and history which helped us a lot during our trip to this marvellous country. Lan also gave us great food recommendations in the city. We learnt a lot, laught a lot! Was a great tour but this is all thanks to the one and only Lan! Looking forward to seeing you again! Marta and Tiago
