What To Expect

In this tour you will learn the process of the pride product of our country: Coffee. We are going to see the production of this grain in a Coffee Farm located in the middle of a biodiverse landscape in the heart of Colombia. During the excursion we will see how the process begins, from the sowing of the seed, its formation, its main pests and diseases, its relationship with the environment, its collection and its processing until dry parchment (as coffee is normally marketed in Colombia ). To end the activity, we will enjoy a cup of special Colombian coffee, produced in our plantation and roasted in the cooperative of coffee growers in our area.

I went on the tour with my 2 daughters and 2 young granddaughters. Santiago walked us around the plantation and showed us everything about the coffee process. From starting the plants from seeds all the way through harvest. Santiago was incredibly knowledgeable about all things coffee and was happy to answer any questions I had. And I had a LOT of them :) He was very patient with my granddaughters as they had several questions of their own to ask. On our walk around the plantation, he told us about his family's history (multi-generational on the plantation!) and his grandmother's love of anything to do with flowers. As we were walking along, he pointed out at least 50 different types of flowering plants that were just amazing and beautiful. At the beginning of the tour, Santiago made us small cups of coffee. At the end of the tour he showed us the roasting process, ground the beans and brewed more coffee for us. Even my 5 and 7 year old granddaughters drank some!! There are only 5 options for rating this tour... I would give it a 10 if I could. I HIGHLY recommend tour. Muchas gracias, Santiago, para una experiencia memorable que nunca olvidare!!

Santiago was a fantastic guide and knowledgeable as he explained both the process of coffee growing and the history of the farm. One of the most educational and interactive tours I’ve had anywhere. Highly recommend the trip to Alturá!

We wanted to know about coffee culture and we found ourselves on a tour not only of coffee, but of nature, flowers, fruits... Finally we met the coffee process from the plant, the harvest, its transformation and subsequent toast, to have an excellent coffee. Thank you to Juan David for all his explanations and great knowledge; really the time passed very quickly including the excellent tour and special lunch that we could taste. If you want to know the coffee process and make a good tasting you should go on the high altitude coffee tour.

My wife and I loved this tour! Santiago was extremely passionate about the farm and made the entire process very interesting. We got to see the entire coffee making process and also tried many interesting fruits grown right on the farm. It was the highlight of our stay in eje cafetero. Also, the coffee tastes amazing!

We did the coffee and biodiversity tour today with Alejandra, one of the family members. Her knowledge and her passion were impressive. We learned about the coffee making process and tasted some delicious coffee, but we also learned about their philosophy of maintaining biodiversity. They have been true to that vision through 4 generations and today we were the beneficiaries of their hard work and commitment. We saw so many incredible plant varietals. If the fruit or the seed was eatable we tried it. A truly exceptional experience. Thank you!

We really enjoyed Santiago’s Tour. We learnt a lot about coffee and got the chance to try coffee from the farm. Santiago was extremely flexible and we got a private tour for just the to of us in English for a reasonable price! Fully recommended! Thanks Santiago ☕️

We had an excellent tour with Santiago in his beautiful coffee farm. He is a very inspiring coffee expert and entrepreneur. I grew up in colombia and had never seen so many varieties of coffee and learned so much about the plant and the agricultural process. Being able to learn about other plants and every aspect of the coffee process are amazing aspects of this tour. We loved seeing the heliconias! The focus on biodiversity, quality and sustainability of the owners of Café de Altura makes this one of the most authentic and heartwarming experience my partner and I have had in our travels. Sehr empfehlenswert! Muy recomendable! Thank you 🙏.
