The Palace of Knossos
Explore the legendary Knossos Palace, a symbol of the grand Minoan civilization. Steeped in myth, it’s said to be the labyrinth of King Minos, home to the Minotaur. Wander through impressive ruins like the Throne Room and the Queen’s Megaron, and marvel at the vibrant frescoes that still captivate today. The intricate design and advanced architecture reveal the sophistication of the Minoans, making this palace an unmissable experience for lovers of history and mythology alike.
Experience the essence of Cretan olive oil production on a guided visit to a family-run olive farm. Stroll through picturesque groves, where tradition and sustainable farming come together, and explore the olive mill to learn about both traditional and modern extraction methods. Conclude your visit with a tasting of premium olive oils and other local specialties, savoring the authentic flavors of Crete. Depending on the day and availability, we may also visit another nearby Olive Press, ensuring the same high-quality experience.

George is a WONDERFUL guide. He should be your first guide of choice. We arrived on the NCL Viva on 1 Sep 2025. He met us there just as he described. He is fully knowledgeable, personable, and a good communicator. We will ask for him again when we visit Heraklion a 2nd time.

Lots of walking around the Knossos Palace and you must watch your step! That said, you can’t go to Crete and not see the ruins from the Minoan kingdom. Great driver was provided. Also enjoyed the Greek coffee and visit to an olive oil pressing facility.

I can only recommend the expertise of George, a true Cretan who will show you places that are rarely visited by tourists and who was able to adapt to our family regarding the activities and the time allowed, because we have teenagers. 😊 I don't want to reveal everything to you and I won't tell you everything to reserve the surprise effect during your visit, but in broad outline: we visited a family olive grove and tasted their limited production which is not distributed in stores. Afterwards we tried our hand at pottery then we visited a monastery whose doors are not often open to the public with their private museum to finish with the guided tour of the famous palace of Knossos. This last visit was done with a licensed guide Mr Charidimos in order to be able to fully benefit from the historical and linguistic anecdotes of the history of Crete.

Both George and Dimitris were wonderful hosts during our day in Crete. We decided to book this tour as it had a nice combination, different from any cruise excursion. We loved walking around Knonnas and trying to envision how'd it would look like and absolutely loved visiting the Olive Mill. We loved the tasting that was included in the admission to the Mill. Dimitris surprised us by making an additional stop in a nearby cute town- Archanes for a traditional Greek coffee and we sat and learned more about the island of Crete & it's traditions. Pickup/dropoff were prompted and it was refreshing having cold water being available to us throughout the tour.

Had a great day with George! We came in on a cruise ship so had limited time. George helped us plan our itinerary to include the highlights we wanted to see. We had no trouble finding him at the cruise port; he was waiting for us as we got off the shuttle bus. Near the end of the day I realized I’d lost my credit card. George went straight to his phone and started calling every place we’d been until he found it, then drove us back to Knossos to pick it up. All day it was very obvious to us that he cares about his work and genuinely wanted to provide us with an amazing day. As an added bonus, George sent us a recap of our experiences.
