Hierve el Agua
Hierve el Agua is an impressive set of petrified waterfalls located in the state of Oaxaca, Mexico. These natural formations originated from the accumulation of calcium carbonate over thousands of years, creating the appearance of "boiling water" over the cliffs. In addition to its natural beauty, Hierve el Agua offers opportunities to swim in natural pools and enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding valleys, so bring your swimsuit and dive in. It is a popular tourist destination that combines impressive landscapes with unique geological elements. Here, visitors have the opportunity to enjoy a refreshing swim in the natural pools and take an exciting hike of approximately 1 hour 30 minutes to the main waterfall. (Optional + local guide) The transfer to Hierve el Agua is 1 hour and a half one way and another hour and a half returning, giving a total of 6 hours.

Bring water, a hat, and water shoes, if needed, but NO Sunscreen! The pool is protected and drained once/month so the less sunscreen chemicals, the better for all to enjoy. Our local native guide, Julia, explained the flora, fauna and history of Hierve el Agua., adding to this unique experience. The tour started at 10:30a and ended at 4:45p. We paid $83 for 2 seniors…money well spent!

We enjoyed the bilingual guides Julia and Vladimir as my husband speaks some spanish but not well enough. We had great time in the hike and enjoyed the pools very much. Instructions were clear and everything went smooth as planned.

The climb down and up is difficult but worth it. If you have hiking poles definitely take them!!! Pools are a bit chilly but after the climb it was refreshing. Scenery all around was picturesque.

The view from the pools is spectacular. There are free change rooms at the pools so you can change in to and out of your bathing suit. Bathrooms are 5 pesos and very clean.

Happy I chose this tour, it was a very windy day and even still so it was very enjoyable. We had amazing tour guides and they also allowed free time to do our own thing, so either swim, hike, shop, eat, etc. which I really enjoyed!
