Marvel at the stunning views of Hierve el agua. Enjoy the natural pools and the surprising height of the waterfalls.

These natural formations originated from the accumulation of calcium carbonate over thousands of years, creating the appearance of "boiling water" over the cliffs. In addition to its natural beauty, Hierve el Agua offers opportunities to swim in natural pools and enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding valleys, so bring your swimsuit and dive in. It is a popular tourist destination that combines impressive landscapes with unique geological elements. Here, visitors have the opportunity to enjoy a refreshing swim in the natural pools and take an exciting hike of approximately 1 hour 30 minutes to the main waterfall. (Optional + local guide) The transfer to Hierve el Agua is 1 hour and a half one way and another hour and a half returning, giving a total of 6 hours.

We really enjoyed this trip. The bus left on time, there was very quick stop on the way if anyone wanted any snacks and the overall time was as stated. We had the option of getting a guide for the walk. We opted to find the route ourselves, and it was easy enough. The walk was around 2.5km and took us around 50 minutes. We then finished back up the top for a swim (the water was surprisingly refreshing!). There were food and drink vendors by the entrance/exit.

This “tour” was transportation only, so the 5 stars I have are for the transportation. Our driver, Herman, did an excellent job navigating the small mountain roads. Truly you need a professional to get there. The experience itself was not what I had hoped. It is a LOT of walking and it is very steep hills. The pools are slippery and I saw one person cut their foot in a pool. The air is cool here, and the pools are cool as well, so for me, it was not worth swimming. We spent the 3 hours hiking the trails, which were paved stone steps that led to beautiful views of the valley and the petrified waterfalls. There is a cost of 5 pesos to use the bathroom and 20 pesos to take a shower. There is a large area of shops to buy food and drinks, but they are all at the entrance at the top of the hill, so you can buy on your way in and out, but it is a lot of steep walking to go after you have been down to the pools.

We had a very small group so it was fantastic. The driver was very knowledgeable and made sure we were safe all the time. The water was cold but the beauty of the place was breathtaking. We went on a weekday to avoid crowds and enjoyed every minute of it.

As a solo traveler I don’t recommend it. Don’t get me wrong, the place is beautiful, however, the style of the “tour” is more like take you there and leave you on your own. Not even introducing the other people in the group. To be honest, it would be best to just book transportation as I don see the use of a guide since we didnt get any guide from him 😅

It was an amazing experience! The driver and the guide were both very professional. Definitely recommend going down to hike and going into the water on top. Bring a swimsuit and a towel. They left on time and it was exactly 6 hours in total. Highly recommend these guys!!
