Hierve el Agua is an impressive set of petrified waterfalls located in the state of Oaxaca, Mexico. These natural formations originated from the accumulation of calcium carbonate over thousands of years, creating the appearance of "boiling water" over the cliffs. In addition to its natural beauty, Hierve el Agua offers opportunities to swim in natural pools and enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding valleys, so bring your swimsuit and dive in. It is a popular tourist destination that combines impressive landscapes with unique geological elements. Here, visitors have the opportunity to enjoy a refreshing swim in the natural pools and take an exciting hike of approximately 1 hour 30 minutes to the main waterfall. (Optional + local guide) The transfer to Hierve el Agua is 1 hour and a half one way and another hour and a half returning, giving a total of 6 hours.

Getting to the meeting point: you can choose to have breakfast at the hotel, undoubtedly an advantage given the time when most places are closed. We were fortunate to take this tour at the beginning of June, and it is undoubtedly a great choice, as it is low season and there are hardly any people. There is a risk of rain, yes, but most of it is at the end of the month; at the beginning, the weather is perfect. We had Francisco as our guide, a guy who undoubtedly knows a lot about the history, gastronomy, and points of interest in the region. He is quite friendly and always has a great attitude; undoubtedly a great tour if you come with very limited time.

Great trip. The steps down to the bottom of the waterfall are tough, and im in pretty good shape. Some are really tall.

The Hierve el Agua location was very sunny the day of my trip. If other people have similar conditions on the day of their trip, then a wide brimmed hat is probably a good idea and also plenty of water for the hike. If you're prone to sunburn, take sunscreen or wear a long sleeve shirt.

Very nice day trip! We were picked up near our hotel and our guide gave us nice information about the history of Oaxaca and the environment on our way to the Hierve el Agua. At the place, we did a nice hike together with our guide and a local guide. They were both passionate and friendly in informing us during the hike. After the hike we had 1,5 hour to have a nice swim. During our way back, our guide also gave some nice tips for the rest of our holiday.

10/10 experience. Vladimir was an extremely informative and engaging guide. On arriving at Hierve el Agua, we had a second local guide, I believe Leo was his name, who took us on a guided hike which ended at the pools at no extra cost (there was also the option to go straight to the pools or shorten the hike depending on each individual's preference - we all opted to do the full hike though, which was very doable for most people of normal fitness levels). An added bonus was that there were only four of us total (2 couples), so it was almost a private tour. On the way back we were given the option to stop at a Mezcal distillery and have a tasting session, which we all opted for at no extra cost. Highly recommended!

This is a very basic tour. Valeria was nice as the guide but essentially this was 1.5 hr. drive in the small van each way-then dropped off for 3 hrs. That's it. The water pools were okay. Didn't do the hike to the limestone cascades as it was a hot day.

Beautiful place to visit, Valeria was a great guide and you get a good amount of time at the end of the short hike to look around/chill/take a dip in the pools. Very scenic journey from Oaxaca into the mountains

Very interesting rock formations, and then a nice swim at the end, some moderate hiking up and down in the heat

Amazing boat trip through the canyon. We saw crocodiles, monkeys and many birds in this national park guided and driven by welcoming professionals.
