  We had booked to walk PR1 but unfortunately the route was closed due to the wildfires. We were offered a refund on our booking if we wanted but were very keen to hike whilst on Madeira. Nico offered us an alternative walk which was Larano - edge of paradise hike between Machico and Porto da Cruz and we were not disappointed. The hike was really beautiful and we were well guided by Benni who had knowledge of the island, landmarks, fruit, flowers and the local people of the area. It has been a pleasure to deal with Up Mountain Madeira from start to finish and we would certainly recommend them for any hikes on Madeira. Thank you very much!! Matt and Emma.

  We had booked the peak to peak walk, but on the day it wasn't possible to do the walk we planned to do due to the poor weather conditions. The advantage of booking with UpMountain is that the group is small, there is a friendly guide with you in case you may be a bit nervous doing it yourself and you don't have to retrace your steps (which you would have to do if you came by car yourself as you need to get back to the car park at Arreiro). It would've been safe to do the walk, but when we got to Arreiro it was very cold with no visibility at all so as a group we decided to do the Larano hike instead on David's suggestion. The weather on the North side of the island was fine. David was a great guide and we thoroughly enjoyed the walk. Pick up and drop off worked well too. Groups are small too and pace is set at the pace of the group. We never felt rushed and were well looked after. I'd have no hesitation to book with this company again and hopefully next time we visit the island we can do the peak to peak walk.

  This is the second hiking tour my husband and I have done with this company, the first being last August. It feels more like you are heading out with a friend guiding you than just being another customer. These guys are brilliant from the beginning from the first communication, making sure all your needs are met and answering any question you have. The hike was wonderful with our guide David. He is so knowledgeable of the areas and makes the hike really enjoyable. This hike was stunning as had amazing views and such a mix of nature, the coast, levadas, flora and forna. We will without doubt book another hike or tour with this company again when returning to Madeira. Thank you David and Nico for a great time.

  Absolutely amazing experience, my guide was so knowledgeable and was really passionate about hiking and running. I learnt about plants and fruit and madeira's traditions.. it was great! Pick up was well organised and on time, we had a great day, can't wait to book with them again!!!

  We had reserved a sunrise hike on PR 1- from Pico do Areerio to Pico Ruivo with Up Mountain Madeira. From our first emailed query about the tour until we said "good-bye," Nico was extremely helpful, friendly, and informative. The morning of our hike he picked us up at our hotel and drove us up the mountain. We were the only guests on the early December hike. Unfortunately, the weather at the trailhead was abysmal when we arrived. Rain, heavy fog, and high winds made the hike impossible. Nico offered us many options including a full refund, but we wanted to go hiking. He suggested the "Edge of Paradise" hike instead which turned out to be a fabulous recommendation. The hike was beautiful and of moderate intensity and it wasn't one we would have been able to navigate on our own. Our guide, David, was fantastic. He knew the area well, he was very informative about the land, the local plants (he gave us some tastings of exotic fruit along the way) and he was willing to take as much time as we wanted/needed to enjoy the hike. Our hike ended at the Engenhos do Norte rum factory where we enjoyed a shot of rum & a poncha. After the hike, David texted me some photos he had taken of us on our hike which was a very nice surprise. When choosing a tour company for the hike we had contacted a big tour company and received a cold, impersonal reply to our inquiry. We selected Up Mountain Madeira because of the friendly personal responses from Nico. This turned out to be a great decision.

  I had a really good time with Nico and David. Nico was very communicative and personally answered all my questions before the tour.   We have now been on four trips with Up Mountain over the last couple of years, Levada and Cliff Top walking and the open top jeep tours to the west and east of the island. All guides are experienced, informative, knowledgeable and passionate about their lovely island and are highly recommended and fun! Many thanks to Nico, David and the unforgettable Diogo - hope to see you again!!

  It is one of the walks on the rail, which impresses us by the beauty of the route. Place considered a reserve, uninhabited and with a support house, house of sardine, at the end of the route. There's a small bridge where we can swim. Easy, not dangerous and with a great view. I recommend

  Booked this tour in advance. Deposit via PayPal the rest on site in cash. Everything without any problems. The tour itself was great with spectacular ascents and descents. Have seen a lot, with under bombastic views. So really highly recommended and thumbs up. The guide put a lot of effort into it and was very nice. Recommendation 100%.
