We will gather at the foot of the 4X4 track, the gateway to our Mafataise immersion. The adventure begins with 30 minutes in a 4x4 (in addition, to be paid to the driver €26/person), surrounded by the impressive ramparts. Arrived at the end of the track, we will start walking on a regular path, fording the river several times. The opportunity for your guide to tell you about the volcanic formation of the island and the history of the settlement of the circus. We will trace the traces of the first inhabitants to the first "Ilets". We will make the return journey passing as close as possible to the river, where we will enjoy a refreshing pool. Note: This hike requires you to walk several times in the water (water depth below the knees). Hike offered outside the rainy season. In the rainy season, we offer our hike "Sur les remparts de Mafate, le Maïdo". A good understanding of French is necessary to participate in this activity. Recommended minimum age: 12 years old. For any child under 12, please contact us for more information. We cannot accept minors under the age of 18 unaccompanied by an adult.

The hike with BMR completely met our expectations. It is never easy for us to rate a guide because he does not have the opportunity to rate the hikers he supervises (we imagine that groups can also be difficult for guides and that they cannot complain too much) but we would like to express a big THANK YOU to our guide Thierry for our exchanges, his listening and his perfect knowledge of Réunion, fauna and flora as well as for his concern for the environment. We therefore recommend BMR and especially Thierry for your hikes in Réunion. Our only downside that is not BMR’s responsibility remains the noise nuisance of helicopters that keep rotating to supply Mafate. Perhaps keeping gites simpler (rather than “gites hotels” where hikers would come with their groceries would significantly limit these rotations. Thierry, stay as you are and continue to pass on your knowledge of the island and your good humor!

It was my first adventure in Mafate and I really enjoyed hiking. Well organized, the guide was able to share his knowledge of the place, so it gave a fabulous experience. Thanks again.

Instructive and very interesting hike in the company of friendly guides who love Reunion Island, sharing their experience not only of this island but also of other places on the planet where they have lived before to get to know the Mafate cirque

Loop direction small village of Cayenne too cute, accessible compared to the other hikes of Mafate I find (must love to walk anyway), end up swimming in basin, take a 4*4 ride, be lit by a very experienced and very nice guide (Alexis) not to miss things around us, a resourcing day, I recommend you by the times that run... Thank you office mountain meeting

Beautiful hike in Mafate with Claire who was kind enough to pick me up on her way, thank you for making me discover Mafate, thanks to you I learned a lot about the flora, geology and history of this superb circus. Being not conveyed the team Bureau Montagne Réunion was kind enough to find me quickly a transport solution, thank you for your helpfulness. I would not hesitate to make other reservations as soon as the opportunity arises

Excellent accompaniment of our group of about 25 people by two guides (Danny and Vincent). Two options have been proposed, a rather sporty and longer walk (with Vincent), and a discovery walk in the middle, with explanations about history, fauna and flora, a quieter walk favoring exchanges (with Danny)... Both options met everyone's expectations. The return the next day was difficult for some. Danny was able to set a pace adapted to the group in a bit of difficulty so that everyone could join the Col des Boeufs in the best conditions. It was really a very rewarding human adventure. The care was at the top! The guides kept to the scheduled times, and adapted to the constraints of the group. Cherry on the cake: small tastings of very local products during breaks and lunch, offered by our guides!!! it was just great!
