Valbona Pass
Also called as the Big Day of the tour, we now set off on the thrilling hike from Valbona to Theth following the ancient path that the locals have been using for years. Back in the day, it was only possible to travel from Valbona to Shkoder on foot taking two full days of walking! Walking on this path we will pass through the oldest part of the village where people are still living in their more than 100-year-old stone houses that are remarkable remnants of the past. The 18-km trek offers spectacular views of long rocky valleys and lush green forests. We stop for lunch at one of the traditional cafés along the way but do stock up on snacks just in case.
Theth
After trekking for about 7-8 hours we arrive in Theth that will for sure amaze us with its unique nature, history, and traditions including the village’s symbol, the Lock-In Tower. Overnight and dinner at the guesthouse.

Grunasi Waterfall
After breakfast at the Guesthouse, the” Gurnas” Waterfall is the next attraction. Around 45 minutes walk from the center of the village the round to their pass through most of the village into soft hilly terrain.
Blue Eye of Theth
Situated around 10 km from the centre of Theth, this natural water pool is the main destination of the third day. With a depth of 5 m and icy waters (5°C), the Blue Eye is formed by the erosion of rock by the water that descends from the mountains. Picnic lunch at the Blue Eye and return to the guesthouse in the afternoon.
Living Theth behind and driving for around 3 hours, we will reach Shkoder, the biggest city of the Albanian North. Free time in Shkoder and return to Tirana in the evening, where it is the end of our tour ends.

This was a great hiking tour - the main hike was truly incredible with amazing views and it was great learning more about Albania. The guest houses were comfortable and food delicious and generous portions. The tour ran very smoothly, we had an injury in our group and the guide went above and beyond to make sure they got back safely. Daniel, our guide, was a very interesting and knowledgable man and truly made the tour unique. I would recommend moderate fitness for the tour as main hike is tough, but well worth it, and you are required to carry your bags (so pack light!)

Had the most fantastic couple of days on this hiking trip with a great little group. Our guide Jozef was amazing, so much energy and humour, and the small group dynamic was lovely from the start. It’s an early morning pickup and a longish travel, but the scenery keeps you very occupied. We had great late lunch on arrival to the first guesthouse, and an afternoon walk for viewpoints in the valley. The huge advantage of going with the tour is how the logistics are all sorted and meals covered - only drinks not included. The climb from valbona to the top is moderately difficult, people of all ages taking the trail, but would recommend a good hiking boot for the grip and comfort. Jozef was awesome in keeping us on track and going as fast or slow as we wanted, and we all encouraged each-other to the top. The views are stunning the whole way, you want to walk backwards so you don’t miss anything! Plenty of time at the top to rest, take photos, before coming a little way down for lunch. The descent is fairly straightforward with lots of forest cover, although a little scrabbly towards the end. The guesthouse in Theth was super comfortable with good wifi and shower/room - you sure appreciate that shower! Had a wonderful evening meal with company, really laughed so much, great camaraderie. The walk in Theth and the waterfall the next morning was super pleasant and not too taxing - wish I’d brought my swimsuit for a dip in the waterfall. We had a bit of delay to go back to Tirana because of traffic, but stopped for late lunch by the lake in Shkoder (not included - pay per person) for yet another great meal together. Overall would really recommend this tour - as a solo traveller it took all the logistical hassle out of the hike. Jozef was an awesome guide, had great communication from Andi ahead of the trip. The nature and views are incredible and I’d do it again in a heartbeat!
