With the magnificent mountain scenery as your backdrop, you’ll be traveling on Lake Koman and do one of the most panoramic hikes in northern Albania on a historic trail from Valbona to Theth, a path that has been used for centuries for trade and exchanging goods. To add to your authentic experience of Albania, you stay at traditional, family-based guesthouses where you usually get welcomed not as a customer, but rather as a family guest.

We will leave Tirana at 5:00 am to drive toward the Koman Lake and depart at 9:00 am to the other side of the lake, Fierza.
Koman
From 1985 this manmade lake is the only way how locals who live in the surroundings get in touch with the modern world. Driving from Fierza to Valbona will needs around 45 minutes, passing through Bajram Curri, the municipally of the area.

Lunch break in Valbona and hiking in Kukaj, a very remote area in Valbona Valley surroundings when we will see how the people do their living.

Valbona Pass
Also called as the Big Day of the tour, we now set off on the thrilling hike from Valbona to Theth following the ancient path that the locals have been using for years. Back in the day, it was only possible to travel from Valbona to Shkoder on foot taking two full days of walking! Walking on this path we will pass through the oldest part of the village where people are still living in their more than 100-year-old stone houses that are remarkable remnants of the past. The 18-km trek offers spectacular views of long rocky valleys and lush green forests. We stop for lunch at one of the traditional cafés along the way but do stock up on snacks just in case.
Theth
After trekking for about 7-8 hours we arrive in Theth that will for sure amaze us with its unique nature, history, and traditions including the village’s symbol, the Lock-In Tower. Overnight and dinner at the guesthouse.

Grunasi Waterfall
After breakfast at the Guesthouse, the” Gurnas” Waterfall is the next attraction. Around 45 minutes walk from the center of the village the round to their pass through most of the village into soft hilly terrain.
Blue Eye of Theth
Situated around 10 km from the centre of Theth, this natural water pool is the main destination of the third day. With a depth of 5 m and icy waters (5°C), the Blue Eye is formed by the erosion of rock by the water that descends from the mountains. Picnic lunch at the Blue Eye and return to the guesthouse in the afternoon.
Living Theth behind and driving for around 3 hours, we will reach Shkoder, the biggest city of the Albanian North. Free time in Shkoder and return to Tirana in the evening, where it is the end of our tour ends.

5.00Our hiking tour of Theth and Valbona was nothing less than what we expected. One of the best hikes I ever did, beautiful valleys and rivers and the hike it self was not difficult. It was a well crafted itinerary especially for not the most experienced hikers. We go through Komani Lake and Valbona on the 1st day and in the second we are well rested for the 2nd day big hike. Third day had hiking planned as well, but less than the 2nd day. A special thank you to Riserd who helped us organise everything and our guide Daniel who was very engaging and helpful throughout the whole experience. I recommend this itinerary and adventure for anyone who likes to trek/hike and enjoy beautiful mountainous scenery.

4.00Good itinerary, excellent hikes, beautiful scenery and delicious meals. First accommodation was perfect but second, less so on account of lack of lighting in room. Despite being assured that lunch was included on the last day, clients had to pay their own way. Our guide, Daniel, provided sound information re local history of specific locations but otherwise, appeared reluctant to engage with the group and his manner was often overly brusque. We were constantly being hurried along, allowing little time to simply enjoy and take photos of the environment; an unnecessary precaution since on both occasions, we arrived at the guest houses with a lot of time to spare before dinner.

4.00The places we visit were great, we loved. We loved the first hotel and meals there in Valbona. Its was very comfortable and food was amazing. The second place we stayed in Theth was not good at all. Our bathroom was smelling very very bad. The room was big, but it was cold inside and there were no heating. The food wasn’t good also. The van we had sour transportation in Theth were also really old, and not good an it didn’t look safe. We would like to make an observation about our tour guide, Daniel. We has very rude and impaciente. We couldn’t ask anything that he gave us a bad answer, feeling like we where stupid or a child. And also sarcastic. He was always way apart from the group and saying as little as possible. In the beginning I felt like this was only with me, than I talked to other people in the group and they were feeling the same. He wasn’t being friendly with anyone in our group.

Because ik was organized with care, small group, very nice guesthouses, albanese food prepared by locals, Breathtaking nature and program, and Brikken, our tourguide made it complete with his beautifull attitude, his many stories about the land and the culture, him caring about all of our health during the trip.
