A wonderful enlightening experience! Zamani is so knowledgeable about South African history especially about the Zulu peoples. He made our journey to the game reserve so interesting by telling us about King Shaka. The safari was great!! Even on a hot day we were able to spot 3 of the big 5! The river boat was fantastic, we saw loads of hippo pods. Sadly the crocodiles evaded us, once again due to the heat. If you are doing the day tour from Durban to the park be prepared for a long day but it will be well worth it with Zamani!

This tour was so good as there was a lot of information given historical wise and as well nature wise. At the NP I was able to watch how a lioness had catch a prey. At the wetlands the Hippos had been impressive and how close we got to them. We even saw a small crocodile which is rare on such temperatures. And hypes of birds. As a Kingfisher, Fisheagle, weaver birds, ect.

The tour was so great. I had a jam packed day of visiting both parks and my guide Zamani was excellent. During the drive he took the time to teach me about Zulu culture and the history of South Africa. The parks themselves were beautiful and amazing I saw almost all of the big 5 and also some hippos during the relaxing boat tour.

We did this trip with three people. Destinations Hluhluwe Park Since it's two destinations the time in the park (game drive) was limited to 3h. That's not a lot, especially in a park this size and with limited lines of sight due to topography and vegetation. So while we did see quite a few animals this of course can not compete with staying in a park overnight and having an early morning game drive. Wetlands boat trip The boat trip was great, we saw literally dozens of hippos. However there's a catch: these boats approach the hippos quite closely. I would consider this harrasment of the animals and I'm not sure I would do it again. But if you're not considering that than taking this boat tour is a 100% success considering hippos. Tour organisation / Driver Let's get to the heart of the matter: our guide/driver. You can book a similar trips with lots of drivers. But if you're really interested in learning something, then you shouldn't, but book THIS ONE. Not only do the basics check out: Zamani contacted us to arrange pickup, car was adequate and roadworthy, he drove safely, everything on time and as planned. But much more: During the 6-7h we spent driving from and to Durban to the destinations, Zamani made history come alive: He drew us into the fascinating story of the Zulu culture. Being Zulu himself he started off in the distant past in the era of tribes, walked us through the era of king Shaka who united the tribes and built the Zulu kingdom, his successors, the colonial era up to present day. Not only did he know all about it, he presented the history, customs and culture of his people in the most lively, exciting and entertaining way, with lots of factual information as well as colorful stories, explanations, details about habits, culture, customs and background. It's rare to have a guide who is not only familiar with history AND is good in explaining and talking about it AND is a part of it (being Zulu himself) to an extent so he can credibly explain history, customs, culture and habits. We arrived back at the hotel not only having seen animals. We came home with a totally new understanding of the Zulu people, their history, culture and way of thinking. Summary This trip is NOT for you if you want to "see them all" in the Hluhluwe park due to the constraints of time and the long way to get there from Durban. Consider a 2-day trip or a more closeby private park. This trip is ABSOLUTELY for you if you have limited time, but are interested in not only seeing animals, but also being introduced into the culture and history of the Zulu people. It might well be there's no better guide out there for you.

I went to Hluhluwe Imfolozi Park with a group of friends and it was great decision to do it! Amazing experience, it was something totally new for us. We had a great guide Zamani, he told us a lot about culture and history and showed us beautiful places. Before the trip we hesitated, but it was totally worth it!
