  I am no Tolkien fan. But i watched the movies b4 visiting the shire - a cute set with small houses nicely built and maintained on a rolling hill sid- to understand what it was all about. Our tour was on a pitter patter day with rain threatening to pour out any time. Our guide was enthusiastic. And the tour well organized. I think it is a tad bit expensive and WOULD NOT rate it as a must do pilgrimage site, unless you are a Tolkien fan, love the LOTR movies or are interested in small beautifully crafted houses in rolling hills.

  We had a magical experience at Hobbiton, from the bus ride up, to the walking and house tour, ending in the banquet! Our guide was knowledgeable, entertaining, professional, thoughtful, and just plain fun!

  We were there for a late afternoon tour. It was raining heavily on and off. Our tour guide was Sam, he was simply exceptional and made our experience so memorable. This is a must to do on your NZ trip.

  Personally, I’m more of a Potterhead than a Hobbit, but a trip to Hobbiton was a must do whilst I was in the area. You hop on a bus at your allocated time, and take a short drive to the set. Walking through Hobbiton, it was pretty cool to see the different sets designed, however keep in mind, many of the hobbit holes are not in the movies but built later to expand the Hobbiton experience. It also lacks any other movie mementos - costumes etc - that would add value to the experience. You do get to see Bilbo Baggins’ front door and key scenery, such as the party lawns and tree. You also get to walk through a hobbit house, this being a recent addition in 2023. Finishing up with a drink at the Green Dragon, (3 alcoholic options, and one non alcoholic option) - included with your entry - the tour takes about 2 and a half hours. Well run, beautifully maintained grounds. There’s a gift shop and cafe at the entrance as well.

  Excellent tour, and there is so much to see and learn. Anna, was our tour guide and she was a wealth of knowledge and information. She made the tour fun, informative, and had a calm demeanor (especially since we ran a couple of minutes late). She answered all questions, and most importantly took interest in the participants. The shire is magical, and words can’t really describe it. Whether you are a fan of the books, movies, or have had no exposure to them- Go! You won’t regret it.

  Led by our knowledgeable and enthusiastic Australian tour guide, Ally, this was a fantastic experience which made our family feel every bit like we were part of the Shire which featured in the Hobbit and Lord of the Rings trilogies. Excellent value for money, for the time (over 2 hours) we were able to spend on the walking tour together with a complementary drink from the Green Dragon Inn and the amazing lunch buffet. One of the best and most memorable activities from our holiday in NZ.

  The most incredible time and an absolute bucket list item for any LOTR fan. Our tour guide was kind and knowledgeable and really encouraged us to take lots of pics and enjoy ourselves. Never felt rushed or like we didn’t matter (despite being one of many, many tourists). We learned so much about the set and the movie! It was amazing to be so close to such detailed work. And the final stop for a beer and a snack was a perfect way to end the tour. Very much worth the time and money!

  Our visit to Hobbiton was fantastic. Our guide was Georgie and it was a lovely surprise that she was Scottish. The whole tour was leisurely and full of so many interesting facts about the set and the family that own the premises. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and it is a tour that should not be missed.
