What To Expect
Departing Auckland at 7am you will take a pleasant drive south over the Bombay Hills into the rich dairy farmland of the Waikato, then turning East. A short stop at an elevated view over the Hauraki plains, with the Kaimai Coromandel range in the distance, makes for a great group photo.
It’s all plain flat driving across the plains through farmland to a disused dairy factory for a coffee/tea break. Just a few minutes down the road is the information centre at Matamata, which resembles a hobbit house. Here you can strike a pose with the statue of Gollum.

5.00I booked the Hobbiton & Waitomo Caves Day Tour from Auckland and it was an amazing experience. Hobbiton was magical, and the glowworms in Waitomo were truly unforgettable. Our driver-guide was excellent and made the trip smooth and enjoyable. Highly recommend!

He drove safely, shared fascinating local history, and took care of all the logistics, including collecting our tickets. 5.00We were thoroughly entertained by our guide Danilo as we wandered around Hobiton. The village itself is an amazing example of imagination and ingenuity. I really loved this place which captured the feeling and tone of scenes from the movies. The video messages seen in the bus to and from really introduced the fondness Jackson has for his country. Well worth the visit.

4.00Keith was on time to pick us up from our hotel. We were quickly on our way to the attractions that we were interested seeing. We traveled in his Jaguar which was comfortable and pleasant. Keith told us about the areas we drove through, but left the information on Hobbiton and Waitomo to the local guides. I thought we were going to be in a small group tour with others and commentary on where we were going and what we would see, so I was surprised that it was just the two of us with a private driver, not really a tour. We have no complaints about the day, we just were expecting something different. We would recommend Keith to anyone who wanted a private driver. He was kind, courteous, thoughtful and professional. Just be aware of what you are reserving.
