  We spent three days in Hoi An and were so incredibly lucky to have John as our unofficial tour guide. We originally booked him for our early morning Ba Na Hills tour, but unfortunately, scheduling had other plans. Even though that tour didn’t work out, John immediately reached out and asked if we would like to have dinner with him when we arrived in Hoi An — and I’m so glad we did. From the very beginning, you could tell how passionate John is about his hometown and how much he genuinely loves sharing the beauty, culture, and heart of Hoi An with others. What started as a simple dinner turned into one of the most memorable parts of our entire trip. During our stay, John spent any spare time he had with us, showing us the local side of Hoi An that we never would have experienced on our own. He first took us to a small local shop where we had hủ tiếu and bánh mì, both of which were absolutely delicious. He then brought us on a motorbike tour through the non-touristy parts of Hoi An, where we learned about Vietnamese farming and even had the opportunity to step inside a Vietnamese home and learn about the owner’s way of life. These were such meaningful and authentic experiences that made us appreciate Hoi An even more. My friend and I truly wish we had stayed in Hoi An longer because of how wonderful John was. His hospitality, kindness, and thoughtfulness made us feel so taken care of. On our last day, he even gave us a custom-made lantern to remember our time together in Hoi An, which was such a sweet and personal gesture. Honestly, I wish I could put John in my pocket and bring him with me as a master tour guide for every destination in the world. He is easygoing, genuine, and never pressures you into doing anything you don’t want to do. He truly listens, remembers the small details, and curates the perfect experience based on what his guests enjoy. John genuinely cares about his customers and wants them to learn, experience, and fall in love with Vietnam. While tips may not be required in Asia, they are always appreciated — and John absolutely deserves every tip because of how much heart he puts into what he does. • Our favourite experience in Hoi An!

  Unique and fun experience - you are missing out if you don’t do this while in Hoi An! Thank you John for taking us out of the hustle and bustle of touristy areas and showing us the authentic way of life in Vietnam, with some rly nice photos along the way too :) our favourite part was cycling along the rice fields and meeting the cutest local farmer ever 🥰 John was entertaining, knowledgeable, and made us feel super comfortable throughout the entire journey.   John was a genuine and easygoing guide. His tour provides an authentic experience of the life of locals, especially the farming and agriculture community, making it a refreshing experience for visitors who live in urban cities. I strongly recommend anyone coming to Hoi An to cater half a day for his tour. He is directly contactable via instagram if you’d like to customise any part of your trip.

  We spent two very enjoyable days with John. Firstly with a walking tour of Hoi An, then on a bike tour which had the highlights of visiting the Thanh Ha pottery village, then to Cam Thanh village where we went for a jaunt on one of the round boats, and finishing up with an amazing lunch and visit to Tra Que organic vegetable village. John was great company. He was very knowledgable and had a good sense of humour. Additionally, he really went out of his way to make sure we had a good time and took every opportunity to take photo’s. We would highly recommend taking one of John’s tours.

  This was my second time booking a private tour with John, and once again, he absolutely delivered. This experience was centered around the coconut village and the traditional basket boat ride, and it was one of the most fun and unique things we did in Vietnam. Gliding through the palm-lined waterways in those round boats already feels like stepping into another world, but then came the spinning… and that was next level. Controlled chaos in the best way possible. Equal parts thrill ride and cultural experience. What really stood out, though, was how authentic it felt. This isn’t just a tourist attraction, it’s rooted in real, old-school fishing techniques. John made sure we understood the history behind it, how the boats are used, and the traditions that locals have been practicing for generations. It gave the whole experience depth instead of it just being a quick photo op. As always, John kept everything running smoothly. No waiting around, no confusion, just a seamless, well-paced day. He knows exactly where to go, who to talk to, and how to make the experience feel elevated without losing its authenticity. He’s also just a great guy to spend the day with, super personable, funny, and easy to connect with. We also stopped by a marble sculpture workshop where we watched artisans create incredibly detailed pieces by hand, which was fascinating and added another unique layer to the day. And to top it all off, we finished with a beautiful lantern boat ride, making wishes and watching them float down the river… one of those moments you don’t forget. And while this tour focused more on culture and experiences, it’s worth mentioning that John also puts together an incredibly tasty local foodie tour.   Today we were fortunate to have the fabulous John as our tour guide for our bike riding. He guided us on the back roads to avoid traffic and was very patient as we navigated the motorcycles and cars on our journey. He speaks perfect English and was able to give us information on the places we visited and the sights along the way. A fabulous way to spend 4 hours on a Wednesday morning. 10 out of 10 John.

  We had such a lovely basket boat experience in the coconut forest, made truly special by John. Having grown up in the very village we were exploring, John brought an authenticity that you simply can’t replicate. It didn’t feel like a typical tour—more like being shown around by someone who genuinely belongs there, sharing stories and insights from lived experience. He speaks excellent English, making everything easy and engaging, and was incredibly thoughtful throughout—especially as we were traveling with a toddler. He ensured our little one was comfortable and safe, and paced the experience with such patience and care. Warm, knowledgeable, and genuinely kind—John made this a relaxed and memorable experience for our family. Highly recommend!

  I had a chance to take the Hoi A country side and history tour on a bicycle with John. It was a memorable experience of sightseeing, good conversations and food. John is an energy filled, passionate and thoughtful person. He ensured that my interests were tended to. After a long day of travel he also ensured my energy was preserved to make time for the activities interspersed with periods with relaxing for coffee, food or water. If you are looking for someone who can match your energy, provide information on the local life and take care of your needs, I recommend John.
