John started the tour with a visit to a couple of the small, Indie producers of products that we would experience on the tour. We learned a lot and it gave us a much better appreciation of the wonderful food that we experienced later that evening. We have been on a lot of food tours, and John’s is definitely one of the best. We highly recommend it.

John Lee gave us a thorough tour of Hoi An. On scooter, we visited a master maker of cao lau (rice noodle), swept through rice paddies, enjoyed world-renowned banh mi, and marveled at the floating lanterns on the Hoai River. John explained the sights in great detail and indulged us with the things that we wanted to do, including eating street food like fresh durian. Come out and explore Hoi A with John Lee Tours!

My husband, son, and I had the most amazing food tour on the back of motorbikes with John Lee tours last night! Our guide, Lam, and the other two drivers, Lam and Dat, took such good care of us. They drove us through back alleys, winding roads, bustling streets, and rice fields. We saw parts of Hoi An we would never have seen otherwise. Lam was an excellent guide sharing much information about his own life and Vietnam more generally. We learned the history of each food we ate. We got to take a try at making dumplings and saw where noodles are made. The thing that made it all extra special for me was riding on the motorbikes to each destination. It’s one thing to watch the locals speeding by on their motor bikes but to be on one, you get a real feel for the pulse and rhythm of the city. Lam, Dat, and Lam were fantastic! Very highly recommended! Thank you!

This is a truly outstanding food tour and a really fun evening out in Hoi An! We go on food tours in just about every city we visit and can say that John’s food tour is right up there with the best of them. In addition to introducing us to all the foods Hoi An is known for, he also took us behind the scenes to get to know a few of the local family-owned businesses (including a hands on rose dumpling making experience that I don’t believe other food tours do). Towards the end of the tour, John also arranged a lantern boat ride for us (taking fantastic pictures of us along the way). If you’re reading this review and looking for a great food tour and fun night out in Hoi An (with a truly great host), you cannot go wrong booking with John. This is an easy 5-star review!

We had a great time! I had a list of foods to try and this ticked off nearly all. John brought a real energy to the experience which made the afternoon fun. We really enjoyed meeting the locals who grew and prepared food and having someone local know where to go and what to eat was amazing. Highly recommend.
